Support Craft Officer in Charge : Many of the federation's starbases have support craft such as the Wallace class vessel available to them. While the station's Commanding Officer is considered to be the commanding officer of these vessels, it is only on rare occasions that the commanding officer will exercise that right. The normal day to day running of these vessels are supervised by the Officer in Charge. This position is preferred by officers wanting valuable command experience in hopes of moving on to become an executive officer then commanding officer of a starship.
