A torpedo launcher is a common term for any weapons system that deploys projectiles such as torpedoes and probes. Polities known to have used such devices include the Cardassian Union, the Dominion, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and the United Federation of Planets. Launchers can be accessed through a Torpedo Launch Bay, and are usually feed ammunition from a Torpedo Magazine.

Torpedo launchers became standard armament on many United Earth vessels in the late 21st Century. Since then, they have been continually developed and upgraded in their capabilities and uses. Originally, they fired spatial-based weapons.

Launcher systems of the 24th century typically combine something similar to a light gas gun and a mass driver, as there is gas pressure chamber with launch-assist gas generators and an electromagnetic accelerator. The launcher tube is also strung with sequential field induction coils. They give a hand-off warp field to the probes and torpedoes that are powered by internal warp sustainer engines. This allows the torpedo to achieve a faster warp speed than the ship when traveling at warp. Because modern torpedos are fire-and-forget weapons, large delivery assemblies aren't necessary to release them although most tactical advantages of the weapons are made void.
