Assistant Chief Science Officer

The Assistant Chief Science Officer is the second most senior officer of any starship or facility's science department. While many of the junior officers and other crewmembers in the science department fall under the distinction of being a specialist in one particular field, the Assistant Chief Science Officer is a interdisciplinary generalist, being well versed in a wide range of subjects but not necessarily a master of any more than one or two specific fields. The Assistant Chief Science Officer reports directly to the Chief Science Officer.
