An updated Romulan treaty allows Federation vessels to have a cloaking device. Cloaking technology, previously unresearched by the Federation, is becoming the new engineering growth discipline. Many old school engineers are inexperienced with cloaks and a Cloaking Systems Specialist is a position in demand. Still a new specialty in the fleet, many people in this field are still having to look outside the Federation for engineering advice. The Cloaking Systems Specialist reports to the Chief Engineer.
