Major, abbreviated to MAJ or Maj., is a senior Marine officer rank. Majors usually have several years of experience in both command and support roles.

A major in the Starfleet Marines typically serves as either a company commanding officer, a battalion executive officer or as a staff officer for larger formations. They can also serve as Marine Commanding Officer for a shipborne detachment of medium to large size.

As staff officers majors can serve as a primary staff officer for a brigade or division in the areas concerning personnel, logistical and operations. In addition, majors command augmented companies in Combat Service and Service Support units.
