Sherman's Planet

Like many of the planets along the Federation-Klingon border, ownership of Sherman's Planet was disputed throughout the 22nd and 23rd Centuries. The 2267 Treaty of Organia dictated that control of the planet would fall to the power that could best develop it.

The Federation's plan called for the cultivation of a grain called quadrotriticale, a plant well-suited for the planet's environment. This ultimately satisfied the Organians and gave ownership to the Federation.

By 2269, however, the planet was suffering from a famine. A newer, more robust strain of the grain (called quintotriticale) was introduced with satisfactory results.
