Physical Description

At approximately 182 Meters (5’9”) in height, Ty is not overly imposing. There are plenty of individuals male and female of various species who are about his height or taller. His hair is very dark brown, and he keeps it short, a groomed buzz cut that is well regulated. He does not like it getting too overgrown or unruly though in his youth he would have allowed several inches of growth. He still has a boyish look to him despite his best efforts to conceal it under facial hair, he has the ‘baby fat’ appearance around his cheekbones. His eyes are a warm brown, his nose a bit pudgy, and his more unique looking feature are his ears that stick out a bit further than aesthetically pleasing to some.

Personality & Traits

General Overview

Arrogance and charisma mix together to comprise the simplest ingredients in Ty Acevedo’s personality which is very evident upon meeting him. He is what some would describe as “rough around the edges” as if he is always on guard and ready for a confrontation or fight, and almost as if he is disappointed when someone does not push back. Ty has enormous will power, wanting to desperately leave his mark on everything he touches, every mission, every project, any opportunity he can get, he will take.

His father had raised him from an early age with an internalized machismo as frail as it may actually be, that ‘boys don’t cry,’ and he has carried that with him ever since he was little growing up on Stratos City above Ardana. To live in the cloud city of Stratos was to live above hundreds of thousands of others and be closest to the stars. It was something many lusted for, but Ty was fortunate to be born into that luxury of power. He was determined to master it, and never allow anyone or anything to knock him down.

Unapologetically himself, Ty is who he is, and he won’t be anybody else. Regardless of what Starfleet has tried to turn him into, shards of Ty remain imbedded in his heart and soul. He has done his best to twist and turn, to sculpt himself into a better officer of Starfleet, but he can only do that to an extent. His independence means a lot to him, to the point that being a lone wolf is very much part of his identity.

Where others in a leadership position may want to inspire others, Ty takes on a different tactic: he seeks to be so damn good at what he does that it intimidates others into doing better and working harder. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, Ty can take a beating, but this ‘strength’ is an Achilles heel as Ty neglects his own health and defiantly refuses to get help when he needs it.

Ty has built up and reinforced a steel ego that is not easily bruised but makes him hard to get along with. There is a danger to this behavior. The more he tries to fortify himself, the more withdrawn he is going to become and that may turn him into a rock emotionally. He is at his best when he does open up to someone be that a friendship or a romantic relationship. The problem is that it takes someone with a lot of patience and determination to pull Ty to the surface.

When he is at an emotionally healthy place, however, Ty has a resourceful, “can-do” attitude as well as a steady inner drive. He will take the initiative and make things happen with a great passion for life. Ty cab be an honorable and authoritative—natural leader who projects a solid, commanding presence. His groundedness gives him an abundant “common sense” as well as the ability to be decisive. Ty is more than willing to “take the heat,” knowing that any decision cannot please everyone, but as much as possible, he wants to look after the interests of the people in his charge without playing favorites.

Strengths & Weaknesses

▪ Determined - Ambitious and goal-oriented. Whenever an idea or pursuit captures their imagination, Ty dedicates himself to mastering the subject and gaining relevant skills. They tend to have clear visions of what it means for them to be successful, and few things can deter them from turning these visions into reality.

▪ Curious & Versatile – Ty loves diving into all sorts of challenges. Their curiosity and determination can help him succeed in a wide range of endeavors but is not a know-it-all. He may have general surface knowledge about a variety of things, but his expertise lies in weapons and engineering. Because of his background, he is as comfortable wielding a plasma torch as he is a phaser riffle.

▪ If Ty feels that he is in serious danger, he may brutally destroy everything that has not conformed to their will rather than surrender to anyone else. He is not afraid to yank off his commbadge as a symbolic gesture that he’s torn Starfleet from his oncoming behavior.

▪ A cantankerous snapping turtle – Ty can best be described as having the spirit animal of a snapping turtle. He may look cute and cuddly but get too close at the wrong time and you are going to get snapped at. He does not like his personal space being invaded unless her initiates or permits it. He can be moody and brooding. Some would even say that Ty is a curmudgeon.

▪ Albatross around your neck – The downside to when Ty becomes close to someone is that he can become so attached that it may become toxic and overbearing. He can be very clingy and needy with someone he cares for and trusts.

Personal History

Born on Stratos City, the cloud city of the planet Ardana in the Beta Quadrant’s Mu Leonis A system, Ty was the son of a single parent. His mother had died in an accident when he was but a toddler. He, unfortunately, does not have much in the way of memory of her though his father did a sufficient job in raising Ty. His father was a structural engineer who worked on Stratos City ensuring that his son, Ty received the best education offered on the planet Ardana which happened to be the schools within the cloud city.

Having often accompanied his father into his office and on various job sites around the city, Ty acquired an early fascination with engineering. He was strong in mathematics in school, something that followed him through his formative years though he also picked up deep respect for history, especially architecture. One day while in school though something happened. There was a problem, a serious one that caused many of the alarm klaxons around the city to simultaneously sound. Schools and businesses were being evacuated immediately.

He was fifteen years old at the time, and Stratos City, his only home was in trouble. A Federation Starship with a crew from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers arrived in orbit of the planet with several officers and enlisted personnel beaming down to Stratos City as residents were being ushered onto transporter pads and packed like sardines into shuttles, ferried down to the planets surface.

The Anti-gravity generators had begun to fail for reasons that were unknown at the time. His father was someone who knew those generators’ systems inside and out, and Ty trusted his father’s ingenuity and integrity. His father swore by his work and assertions that those generators should not have been failing. Starfleet’s Corps of Engineers worked side by side with Ty’s father and dozens of other scientists and engineers on Ardana to save Stratos City from falling.

Several plans were formulated and concocted: (A) Repair the anti-gravity generators before the city fell to the planet’s surface, (B) quickly construct a means of propelling the city upward, or (C) attempt to land the city. Option B was dismissed as not having enough time nor resources. The city was going to be abandoned of citizens as they attempted options A with option C as a secondary plan. Ty’s father refused to abandon the city. He committed himself to saving it and ‘going down with the ship,’ or in this case the city.

Though the generators were unable to be entirely repaired in time, the city was on its way down at a much safer rate. The cities on Ardana’s surface where Stratos would be grounded had been cleared. Ty himself was safely on the planet’s surface watching at Stratos descended to the surface, but as it entered the planet’s troposphere an attack carried out by radicalized extremists who wanted to see Stratos City destroyed, did just that. They fired explosive armaments that ripped the city apart and killed thousands of engineers and scientists who were still in the city. Ty’s father was among the fatalities.

Ty went on the spend the next few years living with his mother’s parents on Earth. He enjoyed his time in the city of Coimbra, Portugal, and learned more about his Spanish and Portuguese heritage from his mom’s side of the family. He had spent some time contemplating attending the University of Coimbra to pursue a degree in either Civil Engineering or Archeology before settling on the latter. He was admitted to the university at age 18 and spent the next four years completing his undergraduate degree in Archeology.

He ended up taking his education and putting it to use by joining Starfleet a few months after graduation. Going through basic training and into several weeks of officer training school, Ty acquired a robust education. He picked up things quite naturally due to his years of living in Ardanan society where it was expected that one pushed themselves to learn. His hobbies and interests lead him to take remote classes from the University of Tellar Prime in Structural Engineering.

He was a Starfleet officer by day, but a grad student by night. Though he spent the first few years of his Starfleet service career as a science officer, he became more and more interested in the engineering side of things. Eventually, he put in a formal request to transfer departments which were granted given that he was only a few credit hours short of earning his Masters degree from the University of Tellar Prime. He had served aboard the Intrepid class starship USS Teagarden as a junior science officer and later junior engineering officer. He later became the Structural Engineer specialist on the engineering staff, earning his second pip in the process.

From there, it was a promotion to Assistant Chief Engineer aboard the USS Latham, a California class starship where Ty remained for some time. He bided his time, put in the effort, and climbed the rungs of the Engineering Department becoming Chief Engineer and the starship’s Second Officer for the last three years aboard with the rank of Lieutenant. This, however, would be where his Starfleet career was placed in serious jeopardy.

Prior to coming aboard the USS Wolff, then Lieutenant Tyrus Acevedo was in Federation custody pending results of a court martial for treason and murder, having killed his Commanding Officer aboard the USS Latham after undermining her orders.

He was ultimately acquitted of any wrong doing and determined to be justified in going against his Captain's orders. Ty had taken matters into his own hands when the Captain showed signs of being under the influence of an alien organism, making reckless and irrational decisions. She had relieved her First Officer of duty and confined him to his quarters, the Chief Medical Officer would not back Ty up, and he found the Security Chief to be spineless. He imprisoned his Captain in an airlock and depressurized it slowly, hoping to kill the parasitic organism, but save the woman. Unfortunately, both died.

Cleared of wrong doing, Ty was still plagued with guilt over killing a woman he had served under and admired. He did not feel heroic over his actions, but some of Starfleet felt otherwise. He was reassigned as Acting First Officer aboard the USS Wolff because the starship needed a command level officer to fill the vacancy. He received a field promotion to Lieutenant Commander for the assignment which pending how his initial mission with the starship Wolff went, would become his permanent posting.

After performing well when the USS Wolff became entrapped in a spatial anomaly, leading an away mission to board a derelict Jem'Hadar vessel, Lieutenant Commander Acevedo earned recognition. He passed the Bridge Commander's examination and was approved at First Officer of the USS Wolff after review.
