Location: Uss Wolff - Various
Timeline: 28th feb 2395

ON:

With Captain Tigran still too ill to meet the ambassador, the task fell to the First Officer. Radak stood silently, with his hands behind his back, waiting for the Kurai ship to dock aboard the USS Wolff. He was joined by Lieutenant Misaka and Ensign Fry. The Lieutenant for security and the Ensign, mostly for recordkeeping, more security stood a discreet distance away. It was not the first time that he had been involved in a first contact situation, but it would be his first contact meeting with an Ambassador that was already more than a little hostile. There had been no more incidents of attack since he had explained the quarantine situation to the Captain of the Kurai ship. Radak was thankful for that at least. There hadn't been a lot of communication with them either. So he wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

When the airlock was sealed, the doors started their slow unwind. While the doors were doing so, the little room beyond was scanning their guests for foreign illnesses, weapons and running them through a decontamination protocol. After everything they had been though in the past few weeks, he was grateful for the process. The time it took also allowed him to get himself together.

With his tongue flickering in and out tasting the air of this unusual ship and his eyes continually darting around, assessing the environment, Ambassador T'ekko took a few tentative steps out of the airlock; his clawed feet managing the handful of steps easily. A few steps behind him came the somewhat larger form of another Kurai.

Radak was mildly startled by the appearance of the Kurai. He had to admit that in all of his time with Starfleet, he had seen some fairly odd species, but the Kurai were right up there with the most unusual. "Welcome to the USS Wolff, Ambassador. I am Lieutenant Commander Radak. First officer." He bowed slightly to the Ambassador. "This is Lieutenant Misaka and Ensign Fry." He gestured to the two other Starfleet personnel that were with him.

Mikoto nodded respectably

Miranda was a little surprised when she saw the Kurai, an unusual purple skinned bipedal reptilian species, no doubt amphibians judging by the small fin. Certainly smaller and less imposing than a gorn, they seemed skittish and probably easily frightened.

T'ekko took a few more steps still tasting the air with his tongue, he inclined his head a little towards Radak and started to speak the words coming across as chirping and squeaking until the translator caught up. "....... am T'ekko, this is Chakax, you are first officer, where is your Captain?"

Radak bowed again, once to each delegate. "It is a pleasure to meet you. The Captain is still recovering from the illness. Despite being cured and no longer a threat onboard, it still took its toll on those that did not die from it. I apologize on her behalf, that she could not join us right away. May I show you to quarters or would you rather see the meeting room first?"

"I understand, we would like to go to our quarters first," T'ekko replied. "This environment is a little too dry for us," he added.

Radak nodded. "We have tried to mimic your environment to the best of our abilities. I am hopeful that your quarters will be much more comfortable. If you will please follow me." He gestured with a wave of one hand, to indicate the doors and the direction they were to go.

As they started on their way, Radak looked at the Kurai Ambassador. "I apologize again for the long delay. We could not take the chance of risking your people as well."

"This delay was nearly deadly for both sides," T'ekko said. "The king was ready to recall the ship from the border and ready us all for fighting again."

Radak nodded. He understood the king's point of view. He was certain that anyone in the given situation would become suspicious of the delays. He had known that they were running against a time limit, he just hadn't been certain of how close they had come to an all out war again. "I am glad that those circumstances could be avoided. The Yatal seem very committed to peace among your peoples... I would hate to see that change because of delays due to illness."

"I agree. Both sides have suffered a lot in this fighting, I think we are both ready for peace," T'ekko said as they rounded a corner to a turbolift

Radak nodded and stepped onto the turbolift, waiting for the Kurai delegates to join him. "We will take this to deck four," he said simply. "Your quarters are located there. You will, of course, be restricted to your quarters and the meeting room. There will be security officers located outside your quarters, as much for your safety as ours. There is a food replicator located in your quarters."

"A replicator?" Chakax asked, speaking for the first time in a considerably gruffer voice than T'ekko. "What is that?"

Radak was not really prepared for a space faring people to not have replicators. For a moment he was caught off guard and didn't know how to reply. He maintained his cool, so it wasn't obvious to their guests that he was surprised. "A food replicator synthesizes any sort of food that you would like, given that it has the recipe for it." He was trying desperately to think of better words, simpler words. "It... makes food and drink for us."

The turbolift took them swiftly to deck four and the doors slid open again. Radak stepped off and gestured for the group to follow. Although, he did give them a moment to adjust if they needed it. If they had never heard of a replicator then he could only imagine what they could potentially think of the turbolift.

"This is an interesting ship Commander," T'ekko said as they followed Radak down the hall. "I think your Federation is much more advanced than both us and the Yatal."

Radak nodded. "I believe so as well, but it does not mean that we cannot meet in the middle and become friends." He stopped in front of the quarters that presently belonged to the Kurai Ambassador and his aide. "This will be your room, Ambassador... and this room next door is for your aide. I will teach you how to use the food replicator." He tapped the code into the panel on the door and stepped inside when the door opened.

The atmosphere inside was cool and murky. "Computer, lights, 50%." The lights came up, but they stayed dim. "As you can see, you can verbally control the lighting and temperature, just make sure to say "computer" first, or the machine will not understand that you are commanding it." He waited for the delegates to follow him into the room and adjust.

"Very interesting," T'ekko said as he looked around the rather lavishley decorated room. "Most of your technology is activated by your voices?"

Radak nodded, stepping toward the replicator. "Much of it is, not all, but we can accomplish a lot just by voice command alone. The computer can even recognize voices." He touched the replicator panel. The light above the shelf flicked on. "Computer, a glass of cold water." The replicator made a noise that sounded like soft whirring, followed by, to Radak, the familiar glow of the glass materializing on the shelf. "Just like that. There is an extensive food and drink menu."

"Fascinating, a lot of our technology is.... manual. If we want to find a record of something we must look through storage racks of paperwork."

"If there is anything you need. My security officers will be happy to assist you," Misaka said. "They will be escorting you to and from the meeting room for your own security." She paused. "Can I ask that you surrender any weapons you may be carrying; the same has been asked of the other party" she added.

"We have no weapons," T'ekko said to the female with the strange device on her head. "The messages sent were clear that none should be carried."

Mikoto nodded. She just wanted to be sure that protocol was followed.

Radak took a deep breath. "I will get you a list of our replicator menu. We might not have your exact cuisine, but you might find something new that you enjoy," he suggested. "When you are finished with your food, you can place your empty plates back on the replicator shelf and it will recycle them for you."

T'ekko nodded. "I am sure we can find something to suit our taste, thank you Commander."

"You are very welcome, Ambassador. Is there anything else that we can do for you to make you more comfortable?" Radak asked.

"For now I think we will be alright but we may need some help with your technology," T'ekko replied not afraid to admit they may need some help.

Radak nodded. "Of course. You may feel free to contact me or ask the security officers outside of your room. If you wish to call me just ask the computer to contact me. It will connect you to my personal communicator and we can speak that way."

T'ekko chirped at Chakax and he stepped inside the quarters. "I understand, when your Captain is feeling better I would like to speak with her before the negotiations begin."

Radak nodded yet again. "Of course, I will let her know that you would like to meet her before the negotiations."

"Then we will wait until we hear from her," T'ekko said bowing gently to Radak.

Radak returned the ambassador's bow. "I will send the menu shortly. You will receive it on your console. Please enjoy your evening." Radak took that exchange to mean that their conversation was at a conclusion and he stepped out of the doorway and back into the hall.
