Mission:
A marathon not a sprint
Location: Sickbay
Summer arrived at Sickbay having kept track of her monthly cycle, or lack of it, She more or less knew that she was pregnant and roughly how far along she was as well. Now she needed to get it officially on record to start her maternity care with Hope. Walking in she smiled politely as she was greeted by Evelyn Kees.
“Hello Counsellor” Eve smiled warmly. “What can we do for you today?”
“I need to speak with Doctor Ross” Summer offered a polite smile of her own. “I just...” She paused. “I need to...” she sighed. “I’m pregnant.”
Eve nodded. “I understand, how’s about you hop up on the biobed at the far end and I’ll go get Doctor Ross for you.” She smiled warmly before heading to find Hope. “Excuse me Doctor, Counsellor Wyse is here to see you. She says she’s pregnant.”
Hope made her way over to Summer quickly, wearing a warm smile “congratulations Lieutenant Wyse.”
“Thank you” Summer offered a nervous smile. “I’ve been keeping a check on my normal monthly cycle, I hadn’t realised it myself until I checked but if I’ve worked out it right I think I’m around 8 weeks. I know you can tell me for sure.”
“Well let’s have you lie down and get comfortable” Hope smiled and helped Summer get comfortable on the bio bed. “Just going to take a few scans” the doctor went to gather a tricorder from a near by instrument cabinet. “So how are you feeling over all?”
“Over all, no complaints.” Summer offered a smile. “Obviously a little worried about what the future holds, but I’m not unhappy about being a mother.”
“Worried?” Hope asked as she continued the tricorder scans. She had never even given it a thought so wasn’t sure what she would be feeling at the moment.
Summer nodded. “Don’t get me wrong I want children, it’s just something of a surprise that’s all. I guess there’s the question of the baby being a hybrid as well, I’m full Betazoid, Ty is half Ardanan, I didn’t think to ask what his other half is.”
“We’ll find out as much information as you can” Hope smiled and tried to reassure Summer “everything is going to be fine.” There was a split second pause “yes there can be concerns when it comes to hybrid pregnancies but we will keep a close eye on you and the baby.”
Summer nodded. “Of that I’ve no doubt Hope. I have the upmost faith in you taking care of us.” She smiled warmly. “I’ll do my best to be a model patient.”
Hope smiled at Summer “well I am happy to report both mother and baby are healthy.” She kept the smile on her face and placed a hand on Summers shoulder “you know I’m just a call away.” Hope helped Summer sit up and added “day or night.”
Summer nodded. “Thank you Hope, that’s good to know. I promise to call if I need you.” She smiled warmly. “I guess I need to make it official now.”
“It won’t be long until you have no choice” Hope smiled holding her hands out above her stomach. “I’ll make notes in your medical record and in a few weeks we will be able to tell the gender of the baby.”
Summer smiled. “I’d like that, thank you Hope. I have a lot of planning to do, and a shopping list to plan for when we’re next on shore leave.”
“Indeed you do momma” Hope had a huge smile on her face.
Summer grinned, Hope’s enthusiasm was contagious. “Thanks again Hope, I’ll see you at my next check up.” With that she headed on her way.
