Mission:
A marathon not a sprint
Location: Summer’s Quarters
Timeline: After Hidden Truths
Summer had deliberated long enough as she sat in-front of the screen waiting for Tyrus to answer her call. It was only fair she told him the truth, to withhold it would deny him his right to know that he was going to be a father. She smiled as the call finally connected and Tyrus’ face appeared onscreen. “Ty! How are you? How goes your hunt?”
Leaving the Wolff was a difficult but necessary decision for Ty to make but what was even more difficult was that it had meant leaving Summer behind. This was only supposed to be for a shortwhile, but Ty knew there was more for him to do. "The return to Risa was helpful, I was able to meet with one of the native healers."
"They are able to help me a lot, got me some information, and Doctor Ross was able to confirm it. I'm carrying a Xyrillian inside me, I met one on Risa when we were here. Apparently just a simple touch under the right conditions can cause the transferrance to the male. Humans are compatible."
Summer nodded. “Are you any closer to locating the mother?” She was worried for him even though she knew he would have good medical care.
"I am," he replied. "I left Risa and got myself a ride. I'm working on tracking down the ship that the mother is on. With any luck, we'll be within communications range in a few days."
“Ty...there’s something I need to tell you.” Summer paused. “You’re not the only one whose expecting, I’m pregnant!” She gave him a worried look. “You’re going to be a father.”
His eyes widened and smirked. "Well, that's more acceptable than carrying one" he quipped teasingly. "Summer, how long have you known? You didn't stop me from leaving."
“I wasn’t...I didn’t...” Summer paused and took a deep breath. “When you discovered you were carrying a child, you more or less said you didn’t want to have children yet. I wasn’t sure at the time, but I am now. I’ve missed my last two monthly cycles, so I think I’m around 8 weeks. I have to check in with Doctor Ross.”
Ty took a deep breath. You aren't exactly wrong thought the Wolff's First Officer, or rather former First Officer. It had only been a matter of time until Starfleet Command pushed Ty aside to fill the position. Life happens, but Starfleet presses on.
"Summer, these are two very different things. This child I'm carrying, it's a lifeform, but I have nothing to do with it's creation. I'll likely never see he, she, whatever it is ever again once it can be safely transferred to someone else."
He looked at her through the monitor. "Our child would be ours and that matters to me. "I can't... won't leave my child without a father. I refuse to."
Just hearing Tyrus say that made Summer’s eyes mist over with tears. “You have...no idea how much I wanted to hear you say that!” She wiped away a few stray happy tears. “I know we didn’t plan this, hell I never missed a dose of my birth control, but then it’s not foolproof either.” She shrugged her shoulders. “So, how are we going to work this?”
"I've always been good at beating the odds," Ty replied with a smirk. Of course he would manage to impregnate her despite the carefulness to avoid it. "The way I see it, if it happened then it was meant to happen. So, we let it happen."
"You can't be that far along. That means we have time. Time for me to find this ship, make this right, and get back to you before we welcome a new life."
Summer nodded feeling a lot happier. “There’s plenty of time, and we can keep in touch via subspace in the meantime! So...what would you like? A son, a daughter, or doesn’t it matter?”
"Surprise me," Ty replied. "Either would be fine because they would be ours, Summer. I don't care whatever sex or gender our child is or who they become. I just want to be there to be a parent."
Summer nodded. “My thoughts exactly Imzadi. As long as our baby is healthy that’s all that matters to me. This feels so...amazing!” Summer grinned feeling a whole host of excited emotions.
"You just try to rest as best you can. Have Hope check you out, and if you are pregnant like we believe you to be, don't let Taliserra push you too hard. I doubt she will being a mother herself, but still" Ty said a bit protective of the mother carrying his child.
Some commotion outside his quarters aboard the vessel frustrated him. He looked at Summer and smiled. There were things he wanted to say, but couldn't. "It's not as comfortable as the Wolff" he said calmly. "Of course. You aren't here and this crew is a bit motley."
“Well I’ll be here waiting for you when you eventually get things sorted.” Summer smiled warmly. “I’ll let you know what Hope says.”
Ty nodded. "Thank you, Summer. I'll have a few things to handle after I catch up to the Xyrillians, but keep me updated where the Wolff is and heading. I'll come find you when I can."
Summer nodded as she looked into Tyrus’ eyes as best as she could. “Take care Imzadi, I love you.”
"I love you too, Summer. Ty out" he responded disconnecting. This is going to be a journey he thought to himself.
