Mission: A marathon not a sprint
Location: USS Wolff
Timeline: Md01 1400hrs

[ON]

Lieutenant Volsung looked up as he saw Ensign Turell, Ensign Drake, Petty Officer Smith and Crewman La'ro enter the room. He gave them small smile and a nod, standing. "Please, take seat," he said, motioning to the chairs. Might as well do this properly. In fact, he was slightly disappointed he wasn't going himself, but he had all the faith in his team to manage perfectly fine without him.

"Hey boss." Amanda said as she came in, she had been off duty when the call came to see him so was wearing simple trousers and a black blouse; as close to 'girly' as she ever wore.

Close behind Amanda but most definitely uniformed and armed was the part Human part Bajoran petty officer Kayra Smith. "Lieutenant, Ensign." She said as she sat down.

Eden followed in behind them, but didn't greet the team verbally. Instead he gave a simple nod as he moved to take a seat, but there was a slight frown on his features. Unscheduled briefings rarely turned out well.

Taking a seat Crewman La'ro almost twitched with curiosity, unscheduled briefings often meant something very interesting was about to happen and he was looking forward to getting into something interesting.

Magnus nodded to them, taking a deeper breath. "We've just had a briefing with the Captain of the Marathon. They're running on a skeleton crew, so we're sending you four over to them to help out," he said, deciding to cut to the chase.

Eden blinked with surprise at the sudden announcement, sitting back heavily in his chair. He wasn't afraid of hard work, quite the opposite in fact, but he knew nothing about this other ship and change made him wary. "They're expecting trouble?"

"That little ship in the construction berth?" Amanda asked, though off duty she hadn't failed to notice the small ship they were berthed close by, you could see it from any window on that side of the ship.

"It's a prototype ship," Magnus said with a small smile, nodding to Amanda and Eden. "And they're not expecting trouble, which is why...we always should. The ship isn't properly armed and has one Security Officer...they could use the extra hands."

Amanda glanced across to Drake, both were Ensigns but only one could be in overall command of the small team. "Who has team lead? And are we being put under the command of this one Marathon security officer or can we call the shots if needed?"

"You'd be their guests, so their...Security person does have a say, as does the Captain. Keep the Captain informed, keep the Security officer across and let them have the lead if it all remains quiet. But I also know you all know your jobs. Turell, you're team lead on this, if something goes wrong you take over what you need to take over to protect the ship and crew," Magnus said, a small smile coming to him.

Eden nodded with understanding, looking across to Amanda with an arched eyebrow, humour glinting in his eyes even if his features remained serious in the work environment. "Be sure to tell them it's for their own good, I'm sure that'll make it better..."

"Standard away team gear?" La'ro asked. He knew Amanda would want to take her phaser rifle with her. "How long are we there for?" he quickly added.

"Standard away team gear, and 12 days," Magnus said before he gave them a small smile. "Pack a bag with clothes as well. Might as well be comfortable."

"12 days. Could be fun." Amanda said with a chuckle, she hoped the small ship had a holodeck or at least a gym or even computer full of books."

Magnus chuckled at that, nodding as he looked at the team. "I am hoping it will be uneventful, yet I know Starfleet. Stay alert. It's a prototype ship, the dangers can come from things having been rushed during build as well."

"Even if nothing happens, could still spend time doing some drills, see if our tactics work well enough on a ship we don't know the lay our of by heart." Amanda looked at the others before turning back to Magnus. "Assuming their Co approves and all that."

"Do we have any cause to think that anyone else might know there's a prototype ship out here?" Eden asked lightly. Because there were different levels of confidentiality when it came to experimental technology.

"I'd be surprised if someone didn't tell their cousin," Magnus said softly, looking at Eden. "I don't know, we didn't know what we were doing until we came here. But there is always a chance someone talked to the wrong person."

"Shipyard like this there are always rumours going around especially when new and clearly different ships are being built." Amanda said. "We may be quite far into federations space but trouble can come from all over the place."

"Exactly. But I know you all will have this under control," Magnus said, serious as he watched them all. "You have an hour to pack. Not much time, but the sooner you're over there the sooner you can help out."

"No rest for scoundrels," Eden gave a soft, mock sigh as he pushed himself to stand, not realising that his colony's version of the phrase had been corrupted over many years from the original.

Magnus smiled at the words, nodding as he looked at them. "Right, dismissed. Let me know if there's anything I should be worried about."

"Guess I'd better go get changed, looks like I'm back on duty again." Amanda said as she stood up.

Eden gave a small, half smile to what she said, heading for the door with her. He was concerned though. He counted five security officers all in once they were over there. If things really did hit the fan, that wasn't the biggest security team to handle it. He kept it to himself though...they all knew that, what good did saying it out loud do?

"You can count on us, Sir," Crewman La'ro nodded to Magnus with a sense of purpose. Not long in the fleet, he was keen to show he belonged there, despite the casting against type from his culture.

Petty Officer Smith stood up and headed for the door. "Twelve days of serving on another ship." She remarked. "Feels like a holiday."

Magnus watched them go, taking a slow breath before he ran his hands over his face. He hoped it would be twelve days of calm and peace for them. Boredom was always a useful tool to get people bonding.
