A marathon not a sprint

Timeline: immediately following 'an unexpected breakdown pt2'
===== USS Marathon Sickbay =====
The until now complete silence of the Marathon's sickbay was broken by a transporter sparkle and a brief flash of blue as the forms of S'Ralor and Lieutenant Poe rematerialised into the room, S'Ralor partially sat up on the biobed with Poe beside him.
Doctor Poe immediately grabbed a tray of tools and returned to the patients bedside “hoe much pain are you in?” He didn’t want his patient to be in pain while he took more in depth scans.
"That hypo you gave me is helping but it feels like I've gone 12 rounds with a Klingon onboard a Tholian ship." S'Ralor said trying to chuckle but only gaining a short coughing fit. He tried to resist the urge to scratch his charred skin but it was so hard.
“Just try and relax” Poe offered a soft smile and started evaluating S’Ralor's wounds. “I can give you something more chief but I’m afraid we are not equipped to handle your extensive burns.” Kyle could tell the protective chemical suit the patient was wearing had melted to his skin.
"I can manage for now." S'Ralor winced slightly as another wave of pain coursed up his body. "Kept telling them *cough* should have put a full size sickbay in here."
“Theses injuries are gonna require a little more than I can do here” Kyle replied “but a fully equipped medical bay would have been nice.”
S'Ralor exhaled heavily as he fought the pain. "I'll put it in my debrief notes when we get to Dakala."
"You just relax and let me take care of you" the doctor tapped his comm badge "sickbay to bridge I'd recommend transferring mister S'Ralor to the Wolff for treatment."
It was the voice of the helm officer that sounded over the channel rather than the more familiar tone of the Captain. =^= The Captain's busy putting out fires in Engineering right now, =^= Ethan replied lightly, the slightest of drawls in the way he spoke. =^= Go ahead, but I suggest you do it sooner rather than later in case we start losing stability...I'll let them know to expect him...=^= He was already tapping his panel to open up a line to the Wolff. =^= Marathon to Wolff, we have a request from our doctor, to transfer an injured officer to your Sickbay... =^=
=/\= Understood Marathon.=/\= This time Lt Binea's voice returned the communication. =/\= Match warp velocities, then beam over when you're ready.=/\=
Ethan sighed softly as he cast his eye over their current speed...Warp 5...but he made careful and meticulous adjustments, knowing their velocity would need to be - and remain - exact throughout the cycle. =^= Winters to Sickbay, we're ready to go... =^=
=^= Sickbay to transporter room one. Two to transport to the Wolff’s sickbay =^= Kyle had prepared his patient for transport.
==== USS Wolff- Sickbay ====
"Lt Ross." Cameron called out as a monitor in the Wolff's sickbay with a message from the bridge. "We have an incoming patient from the Marathon."
Eve heard the call, quickly preparing the nearest biobed for arrival and making sure everything was to hand ready to start treatment.
Doctor Ross made it to the biobed quickly. "Report" she requested from the physician that beamed in with a patient she didn't recognize. Ross also started taking her own scans with her medical tricorder.
"This is mister S'Ralor he suffers from extensive burns" Doctor Poe reported to the medical staff that would be working on him. "I've started treating his wounds with a dermal regenerator and administered pain medications twice."
By this time the medical records of the patient were also coming up with the most current information. Including the medications that had been given so far five cc morphenolog and then another five when the first dose didn't subdue the patients pain.
Doctor Ross looked over at her nurse "get me four cc's Kelotane for these burns."
“Yes, Doctor” Eve was quick to get the requested hypospray passing it to Hope. “Four cc’s of Kelotane.”
“There we go that should help” she smiled at the patient “how you feeling?”
"Crispy." S'Ralor said with a hearty but raspy chuckle. "Had bites and claw slashes that hurt more but it's damm close."
“Glad to see your sense of humor” Kyle said with a smile looking up from S’Ralor to Doctor Ross.
"Gonna be missing some fur for a while but still have that." His body very tense as it fought the pain S'Ralor visibly relaxed as more painkillers started coursing through his system.
“Sadly but it will grow back” Hope smiled. “We can also stimulate the hair follicle if it isn’t growing back naturally” doctor Poe added.
"We're going to need to cut most of these clothes off." Cameron said as she examined the scans taken by the bio bed, "So much of it is melted to his uniform and the uniform to his skin."
"Well let's get to it" Hope said with a nod.
Dr. Sol took a hold of a laser scalpel, finding it one of the most agile and accurate tools for cutting, regardless of whether it was hair versus tissue. "Mister S'Ralor, if you could keep as still as possible, that would be much appreciated," his voice was remarkably casual and calm considering the work he was about to commence. His hands were rock steady as they took hold of a wad of fabric at the arm, cutting confidently and swiftly. When he reached a melted patch, he used assured flicks to cut away hair to peel away with the fabric, but whenever fabric was fused to skin, he cut as close as possible around, leaving the fused patches for later attention.
As portions of S'Ralor's outfit came of the smell of burnt fabric, flesh and fur started to become more intense
Even the half-Vulcan doctor was driven to a frown at the experience. Sol eventually stopped, noting how many patches were just too fused to cut free. "We may have to completely remove these fused areas of skin and replace with grafts," he suggested to the Chief, his tone emotionless despite the furrow of his brow.
"I think you are right" Hope dropped her head "we are going to have to place S'Ralor under general anesthesia for the procedure." After a short pause "that means you will be asleep and we will wake you up in recovery" she was smiling at S'Ralor even though she knew he had to be in a bit of pain even with the meds she had given him.
S'ralor nodded slightly. "Alright, bring it on."
"We will see you in about an hour" Hope smiled at her patient and administered the medication to put him under. "Here we go folks" she said to the team of medical staff working on the Senior Chief Petty Officer.
The surgery ended up taking a few hours and Doctor Ross spoke softly as "how are you feeling, S'Ralor?"
"Cold," Was his first answer after he woke up and began to register his surroundings again. "I guess I'm missing quite a lot of fur now."
"Yes," it was Dr Sol that replied, his stunted bedside manner on full display. "But you've stabilised and the grafts have taken well," he added, points of interest the half-Vulcan clearly felt were more important to note.
“Here you go” Evelyn offered a caring smile as she brought across a thermal blanket to help warm up S’Ralor. “I’ll make sure you get some clothing brought in.”
"Thank you Lieutenant." S'Ralor said flashing a toothy smile at the quite cute Trill woman.
Sol looked between them for a moment, seeing the importance the matter was being given. He suspected he had missed the mark. Again. "Once the skin has had a chance to rest and recover, we can stimulate follicle growth," he added, watching him almost questioningly, as to whether that was what he had wanted to hear.
S'Ralor nodded slightly. "How long do you think before I can be up and working again?"
"I would prefer you stay in Sickbay until tomorrow," Sol replied lightly and tilted his head...awaiting the protest he suspected might follow.
"Alright," S'Ralor replied. "I know better than to argue with a Vulcan, especially one who is a doctor."
Sol's surprise was betrayed by the arching of a single, dark eyebrow. He hadn't expected that, and it showed despite the otherwise emotionless expression. "Very good," he nodded with appreciation to him. "You are fortunate, it could have been a lot worse."
"We'll leave you to rest for a while." Cameron told him. "Call out if you need any more pain relief."
