The Antares class Courier is a much newer version of the older Peregrine class Courier vessel. Since the Peregrine had been developed in the 2350's, Dyson-Yoyodyne Space Systems elected to make a newer and faster civilian Courier vessel to compete with new Ferengi and Lissepian designs which were beginning to take over from the Peregrine. To that end the Antares class was developed in early 2380 and put into production a year later. Since then Dyson-Yoydyne have produced over 900 units of them and sold them widely, primarily to courier firms and also to passenger firms in the Australia class version, which features much higher crew capacity and a much lower cargo space.
