The Australia class liner is a version of the Antares class Courier vessel. Since the Peregrine class had been developed in the 2350's, Dyson-Yoyodyne Space Systems elected to make a newer and faster civilian passenger vessel to compete with new Ferengi and Lissepian designs which were beginning to take over from their older light passenger vessels. To that end the Australia class was developed in parallel with the Antares in early 2380 and put into production a year later. Since then Dyson-Yoydyne have produced over 300 units of them and sold them widely, mainly to passenger firms.
