Beta Ursae Minor II

Beta Ursae Minor(is) II is the second of three planets that orbit the giant orange star Beta Ursae Minor (Arab=Kochab), located near the Argolis Cluster. It is a Class M world very similar to Bajor in terms of atmosphere and terrain. The Cardassians once had a settlement there, until it was destroyed by the Tholians in the late 20th Century. The survey ship USS Hudson discovered the planet in 2246 and within a year, over 5,000 colonists had arrived. When Betazed joined the Federation, they were offered sizable land grants resulting in a large influx of the species between 2273 and 2315.
Beta Ursae Minor II has a thriving economy based mostly on agriculture, mining, and medicinal research. It's capital is the city of Prosperity.
Starfleet Academy built an annex on the planet in 2328, followed by several enlisted occupational schools. Most cadets and crewmen affectionately refer to the planet as "BUM Deuce".
In 2374, the same Dominion campaign that took Betazed also attempted to secure Beta Ursae Minor II as a forward operating base against an expected Federation-Klingon counterattack. Luckily, battered ships from the Federation Tenth Fleet held on long enough until reinforcements arrived.
