The Class 2 Phaser Array was the Klingon Defence Force's second foray into the Phaser arrays carried by Federation vessels. First mounted aboard the D'Tai class Light Cruiser and based closely on the Federation's Type IX Array, it features nearly identical characteristics, apart from a lower beam stability and higher damage, thanks to modifications made by the KDF. It followed immediately after the Class 1, which was found to not pack enough punch and certainly not nearly as much as the KDF wanted from it.
