Cold Station 12

Cold Station 12 (also known as C12) is a top-secret research facility located on an asteriod in the Danderford Belt orbiting the star Chi Dragonis. Early in the 22nd Century, Earth and Denobulan scientists teamed up under the guise of the Interspecies Medical Exchange to store hazardous viruses and pathogens there as well as conduct experimental tests. During its early days, C12 also housed 1800 Augment embryos left over from the Eugenics Wars.

In 2131-32, Dr. Arik Soong stole a number of these embryos while he was the station's chief of staff. He fled to the Trialas System, where he planed to raise a race of "supermen". Soong would later be captured, but he never revealed the fate of his "children". In 2154, they hijacked a Klingon Bird-of-Prey and with Soong, returned to C12 to obtain the other embryos. This triggered the so-called Augment Crisis, as the Klingons blamed Earth for what had happened. The Augments succeeded in getting the embryos, but not escaping from the NX-01 Enterprise. After the encounter, the staff was forced to spend a year decontaminating the station.
