Deneb V (known as Kelta to the natives) is the most heavily populated world in the Deneb System. A major Federation port, it harbors a Starfleet training center, extensive naval yards (including the recently refurbished Atlas V Assembly Facility), and orbital leave facilities. The Federation Academy of Sciences, located on the Fertol continent, has produced some of the most revered scientific minds of this century. Denebians once took legal action against the Federation in a fraud case in the 23rd century when Harcourt Fenton Mudd, an independent trader, fraudulently sold the Denebians rights to a Vulcan fuel synthesizer. Mudd, facing the death penalty under Denebian law, fled the planet before an arrest could be made. As a goodwill gesture, the local Federation authorities refunded the Denebians the money they had lost. As a result, the case against Mudd was dropped.
