Originally known as helm, CONN Officer or Astro Navigator, this position is now combined for all the functions of flight control and navigation with a starship. A Flight Control Officer must always be present on the bridge of a starship when underway. While much of the functions of flight control is computer assisted and automated, personel are still required when circumstances require manual flight control and impromtu flight navigation deviation.

Until a helm position opens up Flight Control officers are often regulated to support craft pilot positions. This allows them to continue developping their skills as they await an opening.

Flight Control Officers report to the Chief Flight Control Officer.
