The Marine Phaser Pistol is a more powerful version of the standard Type 2 Phaser. Unlike its Starfleet issue counterpart it is only capable of firing Phaser energy in pulses. This was desired as it allows more damaged to be applied to the targeted area (improving on energy and kinetic transferal) It utilizes a computer controlled oscillating frequency shift to allow the beam characteristics to be modified automatically, a measure clearly important when dealing with the Borg. This model's modifications include an improved sarium-krellide power cell, pistol style grip, and reinforced prefire chamber, among others. The power cell is hot-swappable in the field and holds a total energy charge of 8.79 x 107 megajoules. The power cell is now housed within the grip for improved targeting and handling. Within the optronics and energy manipulation section, the lithium-copper prefire chamber has been strengthened with the addition of a wound hafnium tritonide fibre layer, which allows a pre-fire chamber energy density and plasma pressure 15 percent higher than that of the previous Type 2 unit. Control surfaces, response, and operation remain unchanged.
