Sappora VII, more commonly called New Sydney, is a non-aligned Class M planet located in the Alpha Quadrant. It is best known for it's pergium mines, and several private companies, individuals, and galactic powers have established mining interests in the Sappora system. Its population is a mix of many species, most prominently humans, Farians, Ferengi, Trill, and Nausicaans. Due to inept or unenforcible environmental laws, some places on the planet are heavily polluted.

In the 2370s, the Orion Syndicate established itself on the planet. It operates legitimate and illegal enterprises there, and continues to try to manipulate the planet's government and economic systems.

Chief Counselor Ezri Dax (former Tigan before being joined) of Deep Space 9 was born on New Sydney. Her family owns and operates a large pergium mine there.

In 2375, Senior Chief Miles O'Brien traveled to the planet to investigate the murder of a close friend. Dax was sent to find him and return. (DS9: "The Prodigal Daughter")
