The Klingon Type 5 disrupter cannon was, as with the shielding carried by most Klingon shuttles, designed for a Bird of Prey class variant over 100 years ago. With advances in technology, the miniaturization of this device has enabled it to be mounted on the Empire's shuttles and runabouts, providing a punch equivalent to that of a Type VI phaser.
