Marine Duty Uniform

A Squad Leader is the Marine in command of an 8-Marine squad or 16-Marine section. The position is usually held by a Sergeant although it is not unheard of for a Corporal or Staff Sergeant to hold the position.

The mandate of a Squad Leader is to command their squad under the direction of their Marine Commanding Officer (in a detachment) or their Platoon Commander (in a regiment setting). They are often called upon to act autonomously or without direct supervision in carrying out their objectives.

The Squad Leader reports to his Platoon Commander and/or Platoon Sergeant. On a ship, the Squad Leader can report to their First Sergeant.
