The Probability Effect Part 2

936 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Negotiations and Apothecaries
Location: USS Wolff
Timeline: 16th feb

ON:

A few days on and it seemed that the device was working. There was a nice steady stream of anti-matter being made and after checking with the chief engineer it seemed the engines were running well, quite well. Hopefully HG thought as she got ready for the day there was a bit of feed back to the captain that the experiment was going well.

A sonic shower was in order before she headed back down to the lab and she hopped in. It was fantastic, better then any she had before. Maybe she had just gotten lucky but temperature and vibrations just seemed perfect. Afterward when she ordered a towel to warm up with it came out with the most luxuries feeling and just the perfect temperature. It was going to be a good day a real good day she mused dancing around her quarters just a little.

-- Engineering --

The system was reading well above the normal; creeping up to the 100% operating percentile,
Of course the system read-outs are not true. As the computer realizes no system is 'perfect' it adjusts the wear and tear on a sliding scale. Such as how efficently 'that' system is working to the potential. The truest working system; according to programming, is between 90 -96% efficent. Thus the top of the scale.

Taking into effect that 'variable' it would not surprise the Command Staff if the reactor goes into 100- 105% efficent; compensating for the fact the HG theory projects a true 100% such readings are to be expected.

"99% and steadily rising across the board." Navore remarked and watched the console. "Wonder when it will peak?"

-- HG's quaters --

HG finished up and got dressed. She figured she best check on things in engineering and headed on down there to see how things were going. She liked the chief engineer besides, he seemed like the kind that had a lot of curiosity in him as well.

-- Engineering --

"Good day everyone!" HG called out as she entered. "How is the little black box doing?"

Looking up from his console and closing the access port. "SHe is running about as good as you had guessed, the whole thing is edging up to 101% so far and I think another couple of percentages might crop up?" Navore replied. "Nothing like going closer to perf4ect than the computer compensator calculations of 100% good."

HG knitted her brows. That was good news sort of. Technically one could not get more that 100% as there were always inefficiencies in any system. "Interesting," she mused a moment watching the core. "Just curious have you noted anything else in the ship systems. The replicator this morning seemed to make just the perfect cup of tea and my shower towel was just absolutely the right temperature. Perhaps an anomaly but just curious."

The computer has a sliding scale built into the systems that adjusts the 'efficiency rating as you know." Navore explained. "The programmers did not really believe in a true 100% possible and put in a margin for 'reality' of a couple of percentile off true perfection. One can figure a few percentile to keep the Theories that 'no such thing as perfect mathematically impossible." Navore shrugged. "Aside from that I am not seeing any real divination from the projections on the Matter- Antimatter side of things." He scratched his chin thoughtfully. "But if your replicator and shower are also being the same effect..." Navore began to check his power grid. "I want to take some sample readins throughout the system to see if there are glitches?" He glanced her way. "Did your theory take into account adjacent systems being affected like the fountain of Youth for a ship?"

HG puzzled over that for a moment. "Not really, did not think it would but it is a probability effect, a way to guide certain things happening such that it favours the formation of anti-matter. I suppose it could sort of leak and favour certain other systems as well. Interesting if that is what is happening."

Since the basic energy is from the matter-Anti-Matter power could there be some effects as other systems are using the newly generated power?" Navore asked.

"Perhaps, something we can check I suppose. I am not so sure though it is the extra power as it is changes to systems from a quantum leakage." HG replied

Best to check and document everything so we can duplicate the process if it works or figure out where the glitches are should the need arise." Navore said with a smile. "We will keep an eye on it and see what becomes of it HG."

"Alright, sounds good. I will head on off to the lab to crank through some numbers and simulations to see what is going on." She nodded and then said, "I will keep you apprised if I find something that is 'time to pull the plug' sort of thing."

"I have enough faith in your experiment that we won't have to do that." Navore said "Just let me know how to tweak things."

"Very well, I will keep you apprised of what the modeling comes up with," HG replied with a nod. Her mind was already thinking of things to put through the computer.

"Have fun HG."Navore said as he winked and stare back at his console.

With that HG headed on off. This was going to require a lot of computer time which meant late nights when the demands on the system were not so heavy.
