679 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
The science of stars
Location: Sickbay, USS Wolff
Timeline: Current
Previously on the USS Wolff...
He didn’t blame Hunter nor did he stop him when he saw the quick motion Hunter’s fist heading toward him.
The contact made a sickening crack and the blood that gushed form Elijah’s nose told him it was broken. He would not strike back.....
.....“Get out.” She told the Chief and watched as he took Galatea’s tricorder and left.
“To main sickbay with you.” She said…
And now the continuation...
Seleya led Elijah to the main sickbay where she settled him on the biobed. She grabbed a tricorder confirming what she knew, indeed, his nose was broken. She supressed a sigh and got an osteo-regenerator. “This will hurt. I must set it before I can heal it.” The brake was both a dislocation and brake.
He gave a nod.
She watched as he winced as she set the nose and right away she applied device that would emit a lavender beam that would heal the nose.
“Keep breathing through your mouth.”
He did as told and within minutes the device stopped. She removed it and did a scan.
“Mended but not fully healed. It will require a few hours to be solid. Please do not get punched in the nose for the next few hours.”
He smiled, “I will try.”
Although a smile was on his lips it did not reach his eyes.
“You came to see me for something before the Chief threw a tantrum... and a punch.”
Elijah had almost forgotten. “I…I was having some trouble sleeping.”
She sighed this time. “It has been going around. I will get a sedative. I recommend you sleep here for the first dose so I can monitor you.”
She turned and headed to the store room returning with a loaded hypo. “Do you wish it now or are you to return after duties?”
He shook his head. “I’m off duty until the morning. I can take it now.” Besides he didn’t want to go back to his quarters or be alone.
She sighed, “Very well.” She pressed the hypo to his neck. “It will take a half hour to begin to work. I suggest you settle in one of the private rooms.” She began to walk away. “Come this way.”
Elijah followed. He entered the room recognizing it as the Doctors nap room. He’d found Galatea napping here more than once when she’d pulled double or triple shifts with temporary relief.
He looked at the small night stand and saw a little figurine that Galatea had always kept there. She said it helped her sleep. It was a little dog, a pug with a toothy grin. She’d always wanted one, a pug that is.
He walked over to it and picked it up. His eyes misted over and the tears fell. He dropped to a seated position on the bed.
Appalled that two people had broken down in front of her in less than an hour Seleya began to formulate a plan to excuse herself and give the Lieutenant his privacy when his nose started to bleed.
She supressed a Vulcan cuss and ran out to the main bay to grab a device that would help. She sighed and sat down by him taking his chin in her hand. “Stop crying. You are not allowing your nose to heal.”
Rather roughly she applied the device, a blue beam this time. It did the trick. “Alright the bleeding has stopped.
Elijah wiped the tears off his cheeks as she wiped the blood off his face. “I …. I’m sorry I just. I miss Galatea.”
She sighed. “That seems to be going around as well.”
She saw his eyes mist over and she stood and hustled out of the room just as the door whooshed open. “Ms. Jareth….how can I be of assistance?”
She watched the woman's eyes fill with tears and a sick feeling settled in her stomach. That was three in one hour.
