Mariposa

A redish-hue Class M planet with rings, Mariposa is located in the Ficus Sector. It is home to a colony of Human clones, the descendants of the five survivors that crashed landed there in 2164. The colony was named "Mariposa" after the ship that brought them. While the population became quite technologically advanced (the survivors had been scientists), no one in the Federation had heard of them until 2365. That year, the USS Enterprise-D rescued the inhabitants of another colony on Bringloid V from its sun's flare activity. Like the Mariposians, the Bringloidi ancestors had traveled aboard the SS Mariposa. They suggested resettlement at Mariposa colony.

Once reaching Mariposa, the crew of the Enterprise discovered that the inhabitants had survived by cloning themselves. However, they were running out of viable genetic material. Captain Picard suggested they let the Bringloidi settle there to provide such material. (The Next Generation: "Up the Long Ladder")
