Nehru Colony

Nehru Colony was the first Federation settlement in the Bajor Sector of the Alpha Quadrant. Located close to the Regulon System, Nehru was discovered by the United Earth Space Probe Agency's Thor V probe in 2241. Three years later, the first colony ships arrived and began terraforming and establishing a spaceport. By 2275, the colony had 150,000 residents and a strengthening economy based on trade with the nearby Trill, Kobliad, and eventually the Bajorans.

During the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor, Nehru Colony became one of the primary places that Bajoran refugees fled. Nearly 300,000 would pass through the colony by 2370, forcing the Federation to divert ships and resources for their care. As the occupation dragged on, the "temporary" camps became more permanent. Additional food and clothing storage facilities and medical clinics were built. The Bajoran Militia began here, training on the colony's Bruce Plains in hopes of retaking their home someday. When the Cardassian Union left Bajor, the colony became a primary stop-over for Federation ships entering and leaving the sector with relief supplies.

Some 28,000 Bajorans decided to stay on Nehru, and they became an active minority in the colony's affairs.
