Solosos III is a marginal Class M planet found in the former Cardassian Demilitarized Zone, just inside the Bajor Sector. The Cardassians originally inhabited the world beginning in the late 21st Century, but abandoned it after an epidemic of the Saurian virus. It was one of the worlds given up by the Cardassians following the establishment of the DMZ. Unbeknown to them, however, was that the Maquis had secretly established a base of operations there some years prior.

In 2373, Captain Benjamin Sisko ordered the USS Defiant to fire two quantum torpedoes with a 400 kilogram payload of trilithium resin into the atmosphere of Solosos III, rendering it uninhabitable to Humans for the following fifty years. This forced the Maquis to abandon their small colony. The planet was subsequently settled by Cardassian refugees displaced from Veloz Prime and Quatal Prime. (DS9: "For the Uniform")
