Mission: Misson 1 - Rebirth
Location: Office science labs
Timeline: 5th of February 2392, 0700hr

On:

Anthony had be long stowing the equipment for the expected science experiments and had quitely fallen asleep listening to the latest science journal at his desk in his office it was still hours until launch. He had seen a civilian scientist listed on his roster and he had seen her briefly at the preflight party earlier.

HG had an appointment with the head of the department. She had not really had a chance to meet the fellow at the party that well. Though she did not hold an official rank, for all purposes everything else would be more or less expected. She wore her usual dress but made sure at least the blouse and pants were pressed and left the leather jacket back at her quarters. She pressed the chime to the office and said with a firm but not too loud voice, "HG Wells, Lieutenant Edwards, we have an appointment."

Anthony jumped a little and pressed the pause button completely by accident. After a slight recovery he looked at the Civilian then checked his schedule and said. “Ah yes I see you are correct in your summation. Wells any relation to one of my favourite authors Herbert George?” Anthony said respectfully as it was well known by his Peers that he preferred to just use his initials.

"A great, great, great...something or so grandfather of mine in fact. I was sort of named in honour of him. Helena Grace Wells but not real found of either name and hence prefer HG. So, sir, if I may, I looked up a bit about you. Linguistics is your speciality. Interesting indeed, I do find languages, their roots and connections interesting but really have no real talent in that direction. Wondering how the universe works, really works that is, seemed to catch my attention."

“Well HG” Anthony said as it registered she had called him sir. “I see you have accepted the civilian role better than being a Starfleet Officer?” He smiled and said “Welcome aboard. If you prefer HG and are a Civilian I think I prefer so long as you use it respectfully that you use Anthony or Tony if it is easier.” He relaxed as he said it, “So long as the command staff aren’t in Science at the time, or I appear to be talking to myself which normally means I am speaking to them or other Starfleet staff.”

"Indeed," HG nodded. "I might have been a pain in the proverbial arse to others to avoid being grounded and to bluster my way anyway to a posting but trust me I am grateful to be here and look forward to working with everyone. So...." HG looked around and then spoke sotto voce, she held out her hand, "Anthony I look forward to working with you, deal?"

Anthony laughed. “Well as a scientist I don’t see you working with the ngineers without an engineering sciences degree behind you. You don’t seem to have the bedside manor for a doctor or nurse soi guess it is us against the world. Though not having to run every science experiment myself might come in handy.” He smiled and thought for a while. “Don’t suppose you got your bridge clearance on your fleet cruise?”

"Oh I went through the entire Academy training and all, it was after that I resigned. Still, I would double check to make sure the captain is alright with it before letting me sit at the science station. " HG sat back and then said, "If you are interested and perhaps your engineers is as well, I have a paper on how to produce more anti-matter in the decay of various compounds. Sort of a reverse B-bar mason effect. There is also the work I did on the exact mathematics of modified newtonian dynamics by incorporating the phenomena as an emergent one. It refined the basic premise and provided predictability and neatly solved the proton radius problem as well. Of course, I would love to read some of your work as well."

“HG I’m a linguist and a few less stressful Sciences, I am sure if you explain it to Lieutenant Navore, Yes I will introduce you if you haven’t gotten to know him at the get together earlier, I a sure he will understand it. My Starfleet skills extend into stellar cartography but you went way over my range of engineering understanding there. I am happy so long as you know what your talking about and shall let you talk to him about it. As for the Captain, I was planning on approaching her to discuss your being able to share the bridge station, though it almost tsounds like you could run either the science or engineering station up there.” Anthony said with a smile.

"I tend to do that, talk too much. I did briefly meet the said lieutenant. I might understand the science and all but a nut buster as I believe one would be called, is well beyound my skills. As I mentioned, I vastly interested in well in most anything and languages are one. I love them but other than picking up a phrase or two here and there they do not seem to stick well. I will be more than happy to pull my weight on the bridge if it is acceptable. Again, I officially have no rank, but that does not mean I do not intend to be anything less then a part of the crew."

Anthony smiled. “Well I guess the last thing to do is welcome you to the team and show you around the laboratories, though from what Ihave noticed they are much of a muchness on anyship in the fleet. Just some are bigger or have more of them.”

"That sounds good. Show what part I have and whose area and experiments to stay away from. Trust me, I had more than one experiment ruined by someone interfering by accident and do not want to return the mistake."

“Well at the moment most of the experiments running are based either on linguistics of Aurillac 3 where I spent most of my down time, it is a mix of Bolian, Romulan with a smattering of Reman thrown into the mix too. Mainly Romulan and Reman, with them being there centuries before UFP Bolians arrived. Everything else is just testing the new systems to get ready for space in the morning.” Anthony said as he got up from behind his desk.

HG got up as well. "It sounds interesting. Well, I do not plan to start anything yet. Calculations involving multiple dimensions is a tax on most computer systems and I would not want to bog things down quite yet." She laughed suddenly and applogized.

"Sorry I had a fleeting image of when working with some silicone life forms. Interesting little buggers but they tended to chew through a lot of things. Several got out in the lab and well...well I turned on the water sprinklers. You see the equivalent of carbon based life forms carbohydrates are silane linkages and well they do not react well to water." She moved her hands apart and made a 'poof' sound. "The explosions were somewhat more intense then expected, probably should have let them chew the place up."

“Oh brother!” Anthony said with a chuckle, taped his comm badge “Computer note for the Chief Science Officer, keep the Civilian HG away from any silicon based lifeform experiments.” Then turning to her he said “I think you’ll fit in fairly well and seem to have a flair for Engineering Sciences so we might have you concentrate on those till you settle in to your new environment.”

"Just put me to work. As I said, I may have my own ideas, and I may not hold official rank but I intend to be a part of this crew and work just like I was any other science officer aboard."

“Sounds good to me, well let’s go and see where we can find you a lab to work in. You’ll be fine if you remember your training and respect, which I am sure you will.” Anthony chuckled as they left his office.

HG simply nodded her head. She would play the good girl for now. Well, she thought best for a bit longer, but she knew there was that rebellious streak that lay just under the surface as well.
