Mission:
The science of stars
Location: goldilocks
Timeline: 10th March 2395- late afternoon/early evening planetside
OLD:
"Thank you, however, let's see what our home looks like a bit more," she suggested and then turned her attention. "So far looks great Ensign well laid out and designed but if you do not mind after that hike down and back I am making first dibs on the shower. We might be out of phase a bit but these things do not do a thing for actually doing physical work nor picking up ambient radiation so...." HG made a face.
"I feel sticky and yucky."
"No problem Helena." Debbie replied. "We've about another hours work till she's all connected and together."
"Well then let us get on with it so I can get to that shower," she replied and made a look of 'what do I need to do'.
New:
Over the next hour the hide came together and soon the final piece was in place.
"That's it." Debbie said as she finished a few more connections then poked her head out of the generator room. "We're ready to fire her up Lieutenant."
Jason looked over at Debbie Larson and gave her a nod. "If you have determined that it's ready to fire her up, then, by all means, Ensign, fire her up," he said gesturing to the generator, and crossing his arms in observance.
"Aye sir, initiating fusion." Debbie bought the generator to life. The power slowly built up over a couple of minutes. "Reaction stable, we've enough juice to fire up the holo generator if you want to run a test cycle."
"One moment, Ensign," he said in response to her. Voss was quick to get a test cycle going. "Beginning test cycle...now," he said and gave a confirmation nod. "How's it looking?" he asked aloud.
"Looks good on my end." Debbie said as she headed for the exit to take a look at the image from the outside.
As the generator kicked in Anthony breathed a sigh. Not of relief but simple from having finished the job. “Good to have it up and running.” He said as the cloak came to life and hid the hide to all but those that knew where it was.
"We'll need to tweak the cloak image a little but for now who'd like a tour?" Debbie asked.
HG raised her hand, "I will take one."
“I think a tour could be good for everyone.” Anthony said even though they had all been helping to set it up.
"I'll join you." Daniel piped up.
With a padd Debbie deactivated the holo image enough show the main entrance. "Easiest place to start is right here, the main entrance," Debbie started. "It responds to combadge signals or a passcode." She opened the door and stepped inside holding it for the rest of the group.
Anthony looked at HG and said “Your going to have to link the phase generators in the wrist bands to it or it won’t recognise anyone phased and we may not be able to interact with the key pad unless you have thought of that and programmed something into them as a recent update.”
"I can set something up so we do not have to dephase and possibly be noted as we almost were." HG replied.
The main entrance lead straight into the hides living quarters. "Afraid it's bunks, two on each side, toilet and a sonic shower down at the end."
“We’ve all lived in bunks before Ensign Larson it should only be for a few weeks.” Anthony said with a smile.
"I have slept in chairs, laboratory benches and even supply closets so bunks are just fine." HG grinned, "Ah the life of a graduate student right boss?"
Anthony laughed and asked with a chuckle. “How long did they lock you in the locker HG? Suffice to say science post grads can be a little imaginative when it comes to their pranks.”
"Not at all," HG replied. "Oh there were a few things but somehow when a chlorine trifluoride spill happened and set the benches on fire..." she just shrugged. "As the chapter in the book said, 'Sand won't save you.'"
Ignoring the scientists discussion Debbie continued, opening the door to the next section. "This leads us to the main section, from here we've acess to the microfusion generator, holo generator and the computer core." The room was adorned with displays and consoles, here was also a large window with a view of the outside.
“I like having a window to look out of it gives you a feeling of security.” Anthony said after he made his way over to have a look out. “It is quite a view when you’re secure.”
"That is it," HG agreed. "I am presuming that there is a force field to keep others thinking it is just rock. We do not need to have the children coming up this way and seeing the rock waver a bit."
"Yup," Debbie said nodding slightly. "Just a few tweaks here and there and we'll have no problems."
"Great! Well if you can show me the generator area again, I can work on the interface for the bracelets and then we can go exploring on the morrow. That alright with you Boss?" She looked at Anthony.
“Sounds good to me. In fact, it sounds like a sound plan, though of course, Lieutenant Voss is in command of this team. Tomorrow makes more sense as a better time to start than be out in unfamiliar surroundings in the dark.” Anthony said as he looked at Lieutenant Voss’s approval.
Lieutenant Jason Voss looked at Doctor Edwards. "Hey, they may have placed me in charge of this mission, but you are the brains of this little operation," he said in jest. "I agree with your assessment, Lieutenant Edwards. Tomorrow does make more sense. Doing it in the dark in unfamiliar surroundings leaves room for too many variables."
“Not to mention that most of the variables could either cause injury or worse deaths, not something I am willing to risk.” Anthony said without cracking a smile as it was a serious.
"Helena you can recharge your bracelet at that point over there." Debbie said motioning to a worktop near the big window. "That last room is mostly storage for all you lots sciencey stuff."
"Thank you," HG nodded looking at the indicated direction. "Well then, without further ado. Charge and for me a recharge as well. Anthony anything else before I pretend to be a bump on a bed?"
“Not unless Lt Voss has anything more to add. I don’t plan on being far behind that idea we have a few ideas to be working on for tomorrow at least.” Anthony said and took his device off so HG could set his to charging too.
Voss shook his head. "I don't know if I will be able to relax. There's too much going on in my head right now" he admitted. "Just...stay alert. I don't want this to end up being the last time they ask me to do something like this." he said with a bit of a sigh.
“It is okay Lieutenant Voss, scientists of all kinds understands cautious alert. Some of the experiments we did in the early days of space flight allows the engineering department being able to control the explosion of our modern day warp engines and without that we would be going much slower.l” Anthony said. “As to not being ready to rest I am not going to rush it but I would certain put your head down once you do feel tired, their maybe some of your engineering knowledge could come in handy to understand some of the structures of stone.”
"Last time they asked me to do something like this" Debbie repeated, though given the sigh it might not be the best idea to have him tell the story. "Sounds like a story for the campfire tonight."
Anthony smiled. “We could do that if you would like Ensign Larson. End the day with a camping experience sounds like a good thing actually!” He finished wondering if anyone else liked the idea.
"Oh alright, story time while we roast marshmallows, very well." HG replied as she got the bracelets charging.
“HG how far away is that town you went too? If we’re going to do that we’re going to have to be very careful, the light from a campfire if badly placed can be seen for miles.” Anthony said, remembering how often people had stumbled across him accidentally on purpose and lead with *Oh your just the person I was looking for.*
"It was more a figure of speech Lt," Debbie said after the conversation changed to actually doing it. "I didn't mean to actually have a campfire outside the hide."
HG nodded, "Well it is a hike, several hours for sure. Still even if we screened the fire, smoke rising would be more difficult. And here I was looking forward to smores."
"Oh well we'll just have to wait until we can investigate an abandoned planet before we have a camping trip, I guess we'll have to put up with glamping instead." Anthony said with a chuckle. "It is okay Ensign Larson having a campfire is a little less than necessary seeing as it is such good weather."
"Marshmellows roasting by an open phaser, holographic frost nipping at you nose," HG sort of sang a parody of the old Earth song for a moment before heading off to charge up the bracelets.
"Maybe another time Debbie." Jason told her then headed towards the storage room. "I'm going to check we got everything we requested. Will you get to tweaking the cloak image?"
"Sure thing Lt." Debbie replied and opened the door to the generator room. Clearly it was going to take a little longer before he was ready to tell that story.
