Mission: To catch a thief
Location: Chief Science Officers office and Maind science Labratories.
Timeline: 29 March 2395

ON:

Amelia worked her way through the ship to the Science Office. She wanted to make sure that everything between her department and the other departments on the ship went smoothly. Part of that was making contact with each department's heads and getting a feel for any concerns they might have.

Anthony was working on a list of things that needed replenishment from the base. When he was working on these lists he was sometimes a little distracted. Out the corner of his eye he saw a new colour on a collar. He recognised it as his ten hundred appointment the new Security Chief. He stood and turned toward her “Good morning, punctuality is always a good start.” He said with a smile. “As is a good introduction, speaking of which I am Lieutenant Edwards Chief Science Officer of this tugboat.”

Amelia nodded and pasted a tight smile on her lips. "Pleasure Lieutenant, I'm Lieutenant JG Amelia Barron the new Chief of Security and Tactical. I want to thank you for taking this meeting with me. When I take over a new command I always want to link up with the other department heads to make sure any issues they might have or were having get ironed out."

Anthony laughed. "Sorry that is not at you, I think you will be very well here. Actually you remind me a lot of myself actually. My department is is fairly tickety boo. Since were arrived at Space Station 54 we have been working on one of the civilians scientists little projects locating and tracking how languages might move on a planets.

She nodded "I see, and how has security been with regards to your department? When we go on red alert do there assigned security offers arrive within time frame? When you need are they prompt to arrive here when called? Do you have any complaints regarding my department at all?"

Efficacy aside Lieutenant Barron seemed like she had a Bee in her bonnet, and rather old for just a Lieutenant . “I sense your asking something other than those particular questions, but let’s answer those first. Yes I believe security reacts expediently with the right number of people to protect my staff. If I call for them they also arrive expediently. So far there is nothing that I feel is need to complain about.” He said as he stopped to think about how to crack this nut. “Now how about you? Like me you seem rather old to be just a Junior Grade. My excuse is I was was a Masters in Language and Linguistics and Communications before applying for the Academy to start making some money and in the time I was at the academy I completed my Doctorate.

Amelia nodded "It pleases me that security is meeting you needs." The second part of his question made her stop and stare at the man. Her eyebrow up in a look that made junior officers uncomfortable in the past. It was an unconscious reaction she had picked up. As she came to the conclusion the man was being earnest and not making fun of her. She sighed then started speaking again.

"As of three weeks ago I was attached to a flag officer's staff. There was a court marshal and now I'm here at this rank." She replied.

"Well it could be worse at least they respect you enough and expect you to do your best to get up there again or they would have expelled you from the service." Anthony said.

She nodded "Or they put me to pasture until I can be forceabley retired."

"Well yeah they could have made you a desk jockey. I don't know what would be worse be a desk jockey or dishonourably discharged. At least as a desk Jockey you're still getting paid, even if at a lower pay grade." Anthony said with a Smile

"I'm still getting Commander's pay, with my seniority. That makes me the most highly paid JG in the fleet." Amelia said with a smirk.

"I guess it would make you well paid, are you sure you're not here to spy on us?" Anthony asked with a smile.

"Spy no I loath the bastards in grey." she said simply but shrugged "They are a necessary evil I fear."

“It’s okay Amelia I feel the same way. I like them for the advantages like sensor enhancements they bring, though science often does some spying too so I guess I can talk much.” Anthony said with a smile.

She smirked "So are you a spy then since your a self confessed dabbler in the trade?"

“Only when the Captain orders me and a team of other people to spy on a pre-warp community.” Anthony said with a chuckle.

She snorted "Those can be enjoyable to secure." She replied grinning.

“Yes we are just returning from one now. Unfortunately we were cut short we could have spent many more weeks their if another species which isn’t UFP placed claim on solar system we were investigating. That made it rather difficult to continue the study.” Anthony said with a forlorn smile as he already missed the study he and his team had been doing. Though the science team still had a lot to study between their planet and the other two teams had dug up from the other planets too.

Amelia nodded "Other species can be a huge pain when they are getting in the way. At least you were able to get some information to entertain the blue coats with for a while." her eyes twinkled but her face remained passive as she said it.

"Yes, well at least they have been since humans first realised that which they had been trying to prove to themselves a reality for centuries. Non-terrestrial life it certainly has been. I mean just think if humans were the whole reason for everything that was wrong with the universe." Anthony smiled seeing the twinkling eyes just above Amelia's Yellow Services branch collar.

"Humans are a pain." she nodded "So not to rush but was there any other issues or concerns you needed to bring to my attention?"

"No, though I only know the problems of science, Having said that we have only recently got a new Chief Medical Officer they might need some time to settle in before they can work out their discrepancies." Anthony said.

She nodded "Thank you for your help and information Lieutenant. If there's nothing else I'd hate to take up any more of your time."
