An unexpected reunion

Location: Deck 1- Captains ready room
Timeline: 15th April 2395

ON:

=/\= Bridge to Captain =/\= Binea's voice pulled Taliserra's attention away from her computer screen.

=/\= Go ahead.=/\=

=/\= Sir the USS Firebrand just caught up to us and is matching our speed 100 kilometers behind us.

=/\= The Firebrand?=/\= Taliserra asked, the last she knew of the firebrand she was on the other side of federation space.

=/\= They're hailing us=/\=

=/\= Put it through to the ready room.=/\= Taliserra said and sat up a little more in her chair.

"Hello, Captain Nadal," Taliserra said as the middle aged human appeared on her screen. "what can I do for you?"

"Would you mind awfully dropping out of warp, I have something that used to belong to you that you might want back." Nadal responded with his strong british accent.

"Something that used to belong to me?" Taliserra asked a little confused.

The screen blurred for just a bit and then HG was standing here in her uniform.

=^=Hello Captain, seems that I got thrown back. Actually, the ship is having a spot of trouble and will need some work. You should probably get a subspace in a bit from Fleet. They are going to let me do my work while still serving. I was actually very surprised at that and perhaps we both have made a bit of stride. Of course that is depending on your final decision.=^=

"Hele.. Lt Wells," Taliserra said quite surprised. "I had not expected to hear from you soon soon."

"Ah the universe works in mysterious ways and just finding some of those mysteries. Anyway, with permission I can tell you more when I beam over." She repllied.

"Standby, I'll have Miranda meet you in transporter room one."

"Aye Captain." HG replied

=/\= Drop us out of warp, continue on course at full impulse =/\=

=/\= Aye Sir, reducing speed =/\=

Taliserra closed the channel and sat back in her chair.


==== Transporter room 1 ====


It only took a few minutes but in a set of surge of energies that reformed into physical substance revealed a still fresh looking HG who actually had a smile on her face. She held a PaDD in her hand and handed it to the woman that seemed to be waiting there.

"Helena Grace Wells, but prefer HG, reporting aboard. These are my orders, but there is a section there that is only for the captain to peruse. Sorry about that." HG said.

"Welcome back Lieutenant." Miranda smiled at Hg, she had not had much interaction with Hg while she had been onboard before but it was a welcome sight to see her returning to the ship though her being a ranking officer now felt strange to her.

"Thank you, nice to be back. Tell you the truth I was never too thrilled about being tied to a planet side lab, but I guess the powers that be have learned to bend a little as have I." HG replied.

"Open space is very alluring, I don't think I would ever take a planet side assignment." Miranda handed Hg the Padd back. "The Captain is waiting for you, head straight in."

"Very good, thank you," HG replied and then headed off and up to the bridge. She got a few quick looks but she just smiled and then rang the chime and headed in since she had been told to go straight in. She came to attention with her PaDD and saluted.

When the door opened Taliserra looked up knowing it would be Hg.
"At ease Lieutenant, welcome back." She said greeting the woman with a pleasant smile.

"Thank you Captain," HG replied and then handed the PaDD to her. "This is for you including some information that is eyes only but we can talk if you wish and you can peruse it later."

Taliserra took the Padd; she'd look at it later. "What made you decide to come back here Helena?"

"Well the Firebird developed some problems for one. Secondly, I really do not want to be tied to desk. I can share what I learn and with colleagues over secure communication. And..." HG just gave her enigmatic smile. "I just missed you."

She then pointed to the PaDD. "The upshot is that I need to do some engineering work on a theory." She went from her usual not quite serious to very serious in a heartbeat. "What if I told you Captain, that there was research that indicated that there is a vast network across the galaxy, heck the entire universe, that could be accessed and if one could successfully access this network then one could make the jump from say where we are to Earth in a matter of a couple of seconds. It would make warp drive look like a steam powered locomotive to a well warp drive. Further that at some point, there was a lot more research and possibly a test subject that managed to achieve that. It has all been mostly lost if there was anything more that tantilizing hints, but that Fleet is highly interested to see if there is anything to it. Hence, where I come in as it coincided with work I was already doing ."

Taliserra smiled slightly at Hg's 'I missed you' remark. "That would be a sight to see, your science lab awaits, everything should still be there ready for you."

"Very good captain. I am going to ask permission to take on more engineering assignment along with science if you are willing." HG asked.

"I think that could be arranged," Taliserra replied, a little surprised. "speak with Lieutenant Kail and we'll see where we can fit some engineering shifts in for you."

HG got the hint that everything was in order for now. She stood and said, "Yes, captain. I will do that. Permission to depart."

"Dismissed Lieutenant." Taliserra said with a smile. "Inform Ensign Bracca to take us back to warp on your way out."

"Yes captain," HG replied and turned and left to do just that. She knew she had to make a good impression and not her usual before 'I do not give a dang attitude'. Things had changed and right now she was excited to have
a heck of a lot more resources at her disposal.
