Mission:
A marathon not a sprint
Location: USS Wolff- Various
On the bridge of the Wolff Lieutenant Binea watched the ops console as the fractions of a light year slowly ticked down towards their arrival at the edge of the Mazar system and their starting destination, she was curious just what their assignment would be having heard very little about the situation.
"I heard you and some of the other science department tried to climb Galartha during your leave Lieutenant." Kyle asked looking over from the tactical station where he sat idly, there wasn't much to keep an eye out for inside federation territory. "Did you all make it?"
"Not just my science department, Doctor Ross joined us, I tried to find a smooth way up, which was interesting, to say the least, the angles change so often, though I knew that going there so it was more a less a bouldering expedition and listening to my chief geologist speaking about the rocks about us. Though she did warn me that that could happen." Anthony smiled before he asked, "How was your shore leave Lieutenant?"
"Wish I wasn't back in deep dark space." Kyle remarked with a slight chuckle. "Nice relaxing time on the beaches, few beers here and there, couldn't complain." He decided it wasn't a good idea to tell them the now former Xo had asked him to keep an eye on the Captain while she was down on the planet.
Anthony laughed, he didn't need to be told that someone other than he was on make Taliserra have fun watch! He openly showed he knew Kyle had drawn the short straw. "I bet the captain loved hearing about all the beaches you went to by yourself. That said I wouldn't have minded a few extra weeks, but beaches aren't my favourite thing either where I come from on earth you go to the beach but you don't go in the water unless you want to suffer a bout of hypothermia."
"It didn't take long for her to notice I was keeping an eye on her and order me to go and relax." Kyle told him, he wasn't that surprised that one of the senior officers had known he had orders to watch her. "Last time I saw her she was walking off with a Risian woman, so maybe she did get some relaxing done."
"Hate to interrupt..." Ash's voice called across the bridge from her seat at the helm, twisting the chair enough to address them. "But we're approaching Mazar," she declared with an easy-going smile.
"Thank you, Lt Rowe, drop to impulse and head toward the shipyard, contact approach control as soon as we are in range, and follow their directions from there." Anthony said before he contacted the Captain. =/\=Captain Tigran, We have arrived at Mazar.=/\=
=/\= Understood.=/\=
Ash watched as the view returned to normal on the screen, the ship dropping out of warp and to impulse. A few taps on her console brought them ever closer to the shipyard, and her curiosity was stirred once again. She kept it to herself for the time being, contacting the station for permission to approach.
The Mazar shipyard was a small facility compared to the great shipyards of Utopia Planetia or Beta Antares but it still bustled with activity, small tugs and worker bee's moved to and fro from a small station, a cluster of massive storage containers and a series of construction berths where a mix of light cruisers and even smaller escorts were in various stages of construction, the central berth housed the only ship that looked all but complete.
=/\= USS Wolff this is Mazar control, approach bearing 240. Hold 100 kilometres off the starboard of berth 3 and await further instructions.=/\=
=/\=Mazar Control this is Lieutenant Edwards for Captain Tigran of the USS Wolff, Roger that, approach bearing 240 and hold 100 kilometres off the starboard berth 3.=/\= then he said internally to Ash, "We have our orders lets see filled."
"Understood," Ash nodded as her concentration went back to the controls in front of her, manoeuvring the sizeable vessel into position as instructed. She let her hands rest at the sides of the console as they held position, her mind wandering back to what they might be needed for.
=/\=Captain, we've arrived at Mazar and followed our orders from Mazar control, awaiting further orders.=/\= Anthony said expecting the Captain might come take over shortly.
Shortly was only a few seconds later. The doors to the ready room opened and Taliserra strode out onto the bridge. "Thank you Lieutenant." She said as she headed for her chair.
Anthony got up and as he did, he made the call "Captain on deck! The chair is your Ma'am."
"Captain we're being hailed by the station." Binea reported as the Ops console bleeped.
Taliserra looked up at the viewscreen. "On screen."
The viewscreen came to life in a flash showing a small office arrangement and a middle aged Bolian woman "Captain Tigran, I have a gentleman that has been waiting on my station for you to arrive. A Lt Commander Slattery, he has orders posting him to the Wolff as your Xo."
"hhmmm, that was quick." Taliserra replied, she wasn't expecting fleet command to get her a replacement so soon. "Thank you Commander, please inform him we'll be ready for him whenever he wants to beam over." She looked down at her chairs arm panel for a moment before turning her attention back to the viewscreen while she typed out a message to her Yeoman to meet the new Xo in the transporter room. "Can you tell us anything more about this assignment? We have received very little information before coming here."
"I am only privy to some of the information myself Captain." The Bolian replied. "However I'm sure the commander of the Marathon will contact you shortly and explain everything."
"The Marathon, Thank you Commander, Tigran out." Taliserra said and closed the com channel. "Check the ships berthed here, find out which is the Marathon.
Anthony was already on it as soon as the name was mentioned, after a few minutes, the sensors told him what he needed almost before Captain Tigran finished her question and answered as soon as he had one. "It's right in front of us Captain. I guess that was why Mazar control sent us here to be ready for whatever we are supposed to do here ."
"Put her on screen." Taliserra instructed. the viewscreen flashed as it changed external view and the USS Marathon came into view. It was a small chubby ship in typical starfleet grey, extremely long nacelles for a ship its size hung underneath a small secondary hull connected to a wide but sleek saucer.
Taliserra looked over to her Chief science officer. "What do you make of her Anthony?"
Anthony thought about what his sensors were telling him, which was that he had never seen anything like it. He responded, “Captain the best I can come up with is she’s experimental because I have never seen anything like her. She has a very low, and I mean very, power signature, way too low for those nacelles. When it comes to a fight I can see no information on weaponry and almost as much on the shielding, so I guess those overly large nacelles say she’ll be running. I am only seeing life signs on the Bridge, in Engineer and a very small sickbay, and the rest seem to be in a tiny cluster of crew quarters not far from the bridge.”
"Interesting." Taliserra remarked. "I agree, she definitely looks experimental."
Binea's antennae twitched and angled downwards as the Ops console bleeped at her again. "Incoming hail from the Marathon, bringing him up."
Commander Dario Munro smiled when he saw the bridge, and the bridge crew, of the USS Wolff. He was seated in the Captain's chair, dark haired and dark eyed with a lived-in face that seemed friendly enough. "Captain Tigran, I am Commander Munro, the Captain of the Marathon," he introduced himself.
"Commander, I'm glad to hear from you." Taliserra said, the relief at finally taking to someone who should know what is happening was clear to see. "I'm hoping you can shed some light on this whole situation."
Commander Munro's face turned serious and gave gave a small nod. "I will, although it will have to be in person. I am tying up some ends here right now though. It might be an idea if I come across to your ship for this conversation with you and your senior staff, Captain."
"I agree," Taliserra glanced down at the clock on her chair's arm panel. "Shall we say 1300hrs?" She suggested not knowing how long his 'tying up ends' would take and needing some time to meet the man who was about to be her Xo for the foreseeable future.
He considered it for a moment, looking over to someone that wasn't being shown on the screen before a small smile came to him. "That would be perfect," he said, looking back at Taliserra. "We shall speak then, Captain Tigran."
"Until then Commander." Taliserra closed the comm channel and looked to Anthony. "You have the bridge Lieutenant, have all senior officers report to the observation lounge at 1300hrs."
"I'll call Lieutenants Baka, Ross, Wyse and HG for you Captain, The rest of already know by the fact we are here." Anthony replied with a smile.
"I'll be in the ready room." Taliserra said and with that stood up and headed back across the bridge and into her ready room.
