A division is an temporary formation of ground based Marine forces and is used mainly for administration and logistical planning. When used in reference with Marine Aerospace and support units the correct term is a Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEF).

Divisons usually consist of two or more brigades and are commanded by a Major General or Lieutenant General and assisted by a headquarters, support and service (HQ, S&S) company under the command of a Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel.

Naming convention

Divisions, and their associated MEF, are usually named after the Starfleet Fleet that they are associated with. As the names are "recycled" they often acquire nicknames to differentiate between active and retired divisons. For example, the current Ninth Division is refered to as the "Borderline Nine" to reduce confusion .

Organization

There is no text book organization for a divisino as each one is created specifically to meet the needs, demands and mission of the Starfleet fleet that it is assisting. However there are several common characteristics such as the inclusion of Regiment of Engineering, Regiment of Signals, Medical Services (Medical Regiment) and Logisical Services (Logistics Regiment). Usually these assets are assigned directly to the Brigade/MEF with oversight held by the Division.
