Fahleena III

Among the three stars of the Fahleena System is Fahleena III, orbiting the large red giant star which gives the system its name. It is a Class M world, complete with a dual debris ring believed to be the remnants of a sister planet. It has a temperate climate and three large land masses divided by six small oceans.

The original inhabitants of the planet died out nearly 15,000 years ago, but they left behind primitive stone structures and entire communities carved out of mountainsides.

Fahleena III was long ago considered an "open planet", with colonies established on a first-come basis by any species. Besides Cardassians and Bajorans, the Trill, Farians, and Kressari all had small settlements established by 2300. Most of these were trading posts and refueling/repair stations. During the Cardassian subjegation of Bajor, the Bajoran claims were taken over and many of the Trill left due to the hostility between the Federation and the Union. The planet suffered from a series of geological disasters in 2355-56 involving earthquakes and resulting tsunamis. While light years closer to their space, Cardassia refused to send rescue and relief assistance. The Federation did, with such notable vessels as the USS Lakota and USS Tian An Men, taking part. Technically neutral during the Dominion War, Kressari shipping interests were known to sneak weapons-grade materials inside Cardassian borders.

Fahleena III today is considered a major trade port in the Bajor Sector. The government has made great strides at developing the economy, although there are still some unsavory businesses working in the shadows. Starfleet Intelligence wisely keeps agents and informants on the planet as small spy rings have been known to exist there.
