Mission:
To catch a thief
Location: Various
Timeline: 3rd April 2395 0210hrs
ON:
=/\= Senior officers report to duty stations, prepare ship for immediate departure, Commander Radak please report to the ready room,=/\= came Lt. Samson's voice to all the senior officer quarters on the Wolff.
Her antennae reacting to the voice long before her mind processed it, Binea slowly pulled herself out of her bed and looked at the clock. 'What could be so important to get us up at 2am?' she thought, as she grabbed a uniform.
There were two things Ronan learned early on. One was always wear something to bed that you wouldn't mind being seen wearing in the middle of the night. For him, it was a pair of drawstring, loose fitting pants. The second, was how to go from sound asleep to fully awake in a matter of moments. Pleasant didn't generally come with the package but nevertheless, when some misbegotten soul announced he was needed on duty, Ronan sat up, shot a nasty look at the ceiling of his bedroom, and got out of bed... reluctantly.
Yawning mightily, he walked over to the replicator and ordered a cup of coffee, because tea just wasn't going to do the job, and then returned to his bedroom to dress. He drank a few sips of coffee on his way from the replicator to the door of his quarters and then set the cup down on the nearest hard surface. By the time the door opened, he was more or less ready to face whatever emergency was at hand.
Amelia crooked an eyebrow at the speaker and then looked at the chronograph over her office door. She smirked as she shook her head and took a sip of coffee, her special blend, and started going through the rosters looking for any members of the crew that were still on starbase or planet side. She sent out automated recall notices and instructed the computer to put a timer on their return. If they weren't back in 5 minutes she would authorize them to be beamed up from whatever area they were in. She then pulled up a list of all individuals not assigned to the Wolff and sent an automated message to them to vacate with in 5 minutes or they would be removed. She placed a timer on that as well before she leaned back in her office chair and enjoyed the coffee one more time, watching the timers click down.
As soon as Lt. Samson’s call had started at ten am past two in the normally blessed am, normally blessed because whether with her was with HG or not today was exceptional, for one thing he was no longer snoring because of that call, though he knew if he ignored this call and the next personal call from an irate Captain Tigran, he might find himself in the brig. Even though he had seriously thought about stuffing the speakers with his pillows seriously for a few seconds he knew it was a bad idea so instead settled for a shot steamy show instead was a better idea and did that with a reluctant sigh instead. “I’ll grab a coffee on the way out too! That will help,” he thought, dragging his almost lifeless body toward his bathroom.
Lieutenant JG Darzan Kail was already awake. He was pouring over the change logs for all the repairs that had been done to the ship, especially the engines. He looked up from the PaDD, as if there was someone answerable for the summons in his immediate vicinity, his eyes narrowed. He briefly wondered what could have gone wrong. Something was obviously wrong, since the call in was coming at two a.m. He supposed he would find out eventually. Considering he was currently the senior engineer onboard, he stood, grabbed a cup of Raktajino on his way out the door and headed for the bridge.
=== Starbase 54 ===
=/\= All USS Wolff crew, return to ship immediately. =/\= The computers voice blared over the comm system at every area the sensors registered a member of the USS Wolff's crew.
=== The salty nausicaan bar ===
"Come on now Joran, this has to be the last one, it's like 2am." Debbie said as she drained her drink. "I'm surprised they haven't kicked everyone out by now."
At the stool next to her swaying gently to the music Joran sipped at his beer. "It's not that early, there's still plenty of people around," he told her, his words somewhat slurred; he'd long lost count of the number of drinks he'd had. "They're not going to kick everyone out when there's still business to be had."
The music in the club lowered slightly so the announcement could be heard.
Hearing the announcement Debbie slipped off her stool. "We have to go, get back to the ship."
"Can I finish this first?" Joran protested, he had only recently bought the beer.
"Nope, come on." Grabbing him by the arm, she pulled Joran off his stool and to his feet. Slowly and very unstably, they made their way out of the bar.
=== Ready room ===
Radak had always been a good riser. He never experienced any of the disorientation that Humans seemed to be plagued with. No matter what time it was he was able to get himself up, dressed and out the door very quickly. He would have preferred a shower this morning, but alas, it was not to be. He rapidly made his way to the Ready Room. Once in front of the door he didn't knock or ring the buzzer like he usually did. Instead he tapped the panel and entered.
Taliserra looked up when the ready room door opened. "Commander," she said. "I apologise for having to wake you up so early."
"I need very little sleep actually," he replied. "I assume I am sitting..." He placed himself in the chair across from the desk, without waiting for an answer, and eyed the captain thoughtfully. "Although, I cannot say that I expect good news at this hour." One eyebrow raised slightly.
"I didn't expect to be woken up at this hour, especially with some orders, but this seems important," Taliserra replied, picking up her tea, she took a sip. "Command wants us to check out a research station nearby. It has gone quiet. It might be nothing but a damaged comm system, but there have been a lot of attacks on cargo ships and even runabouts, recently, so they want us to go, just in case."
Radak frowned and rose from the chair, moving towards the replicator. "Vulcan spiced tea, hot, sweet," he ordered and then picked the cup up carefully and carried it back to the chair to sit again. "And they decided they needed to tell you this at two in the morning? Do they wish us to leave now? I assume so."
Taliserra nodded. "As soon as the ship can be made ready we're to head for the station, if they have been attacked they'll need our help as soon as possible."
Radak nodded. "Alright, what should I do to prepare us? I assume we will be returning to our normal shifts as soon as everyone is back onboard?" he queried. "How many people have returned to the ship?"
"Any crew still on the base have been told to return. Lt. Barron is seeing to getting them back onboard and any guests offloaded," she told him. "Check on the departments. See that they're doing everything they can to get us ready to go."
While she spoke, Radak laid his PADD on the table in front of himself and started to make notes. "I will do that immedately. What about our shift schedule? Will we be on three or four rotations? You know how I feel about four being more effective, as it allows people more time for rest and shorter shifts... but if we are running on emergency we might want to change it to three, to keep everyone up to date better."
Taliserra shook her head slightly. "It's far too early in the morning to talk about shift rotations, Radak. Keep to the standard pattern, the crew are used to it. We need to focus on getting the ship out of dock and heading to the research base."
Radak nodded. "Alright, that should be easy enough to take care of. We do know the location of the research base, yes? Have all of our repairs been completed? I know I should probably already know all of this, but for some reason it is not on my PADD." He was looking too.
"The base is a few hours away at warp 6, not too far," Taliserra replied. She'd only just gotten the information herself. "As for repairs, looks like nothing we can't finish off on the way."
"Excellent. Is there anything else?" Radak asked, lifting his gaze from his PADD to Taliserra's face.
"For now, no. Let's get the ship ready to go as quick as we can."
Radak nodded and stood. "Yes, Sir. I will keep you updated." He waited. It was impolite to just bolt out of a senior officer's office. He also never wanted to appear too eager to be doing anything.
"Dismissed."
==== Bridge ===
Reaching the bridge Binea took the Ops station from the night shift officer and began checking systems and coordinating with the starbase to get them departure clearance as soon as they could.
"Darzen," she called out to the engineer. "Starbase reports they're ready to cut external power, are we ready?"
Darzen had just taken his station and he looked up when the Lieutenant spoke. "I believe so... doing last minute checks now, just to make sure." His fingers flew over the surface of his console as he checked and double checked. "I am ready, Lieutenant. On your mark."
"Standby... go ahead."
"And mark," Darzen replied. "We are ready to cut external power and the station is handling that now." He paused for a brief moment. "And external power is successfully cut. Standing by for powering up."
Anthony arrived on the bridge in his science undershirt and duty vest, as Darzen spoke about the station being ready for the Wolff to go to internal power. He took his place at the science station. A few minutes after the power was turned on and after a few taps on his station console, the science computers came online. "Sensors are up and running. Ready for departure, Sir."
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes Bracca ran through the final steps of his pre-light checklist. "Impulse engines and thrusters on standby, inertial dampners set."
=/\= Bridge to Security. =/\= Binea opened a channel to Lt. Barron, knowing that if she wasn't on the bridge she'd likely be in the security center.
=/\= Security here, what can I do for you Bridge? =/\= Amelia said as she looked down at her PADD and authorized the transport of two visitors off the ship and grinned to herself as she noticed one was in an officer's private quarters.
=/\= Is the ship secure and all crew accounted for? =/\=
=/\= The last visitors have taken their leave, and all crew are on board and accounted for.=/\= She looked over a second PADD and nodded to herself as she took a sip of coffee. =/\= Ship shows to be green across the board.=/\=
=/\= Acknowledged, bridge out. =/\= Binea closed to channel then turned to Bracca. "Retract the docking tunnel and clear all moorings, then standby for the Captain's word."
A few minutes later Taliserra emerged onto the bridge. "Status?" She asked.
"All systems online, moorings cleared, departure clearance granted, we're ready to go, Sir," Binea reported.
Taliserra slipped into the Captains chair. "Bracca, take us out. Set course 095 mark 14 once we're clear of the space doors."
Bracca sighed contently. "Aye, Sir. Engaging thrusters."
