Mission: The devil wears tripolymer
Location: Deck 1- Bridge
Timeline: 25th June 2395

"Captain's log stardate 72439.6, bar our little adventure into Null space our assignment around the Arbazan system has been uneventful, we deployed a number of warning beacons around the area as best we can and informed the people of Arbazan of the danger but there is little more we can do for now. Three weeks of science, surveys and census have led to nothing of any real interest having been discovered other than the Null space corridor.” Taliserra dictated to the computer as she relaxed on the sofa in her ready room, she paused to take a sip of her tea.

“We’re heading back in the general direction of SB54, as we’ll be passing by the Arathar system. We've been asked to pick up some officers who need transit back to the base.”

=== Science Lab ===
Lieutenant Commander Tyrus Acevedo had been off duty, but of course as always, on call should his presence be needed elsewhere. Ty had volunteered some of his free time to assist Wolff's A&A officer, Ensign Daniel Franklin with cataloging some artifacts that had been sitting in the Wolff’s cargobay. Franklin had them brought to one of the science labs.

"Sometimes I forget we are technically a science ship," teased the First Officer. "Though I would much rather be handling these artifacts and scanning these symbols than being trapped in any sort of anomaly" he added.

The ensign of course practical had his nose buried in a PaDD. It made Ty smile for a moment, remembering back when he was the sort to do that. It had been a while since he'd done anything scientific like this, with the Wolff’s latest misadventure, Ty was more concerned with escaping than studying. He soon found himself pondering how Dovenice was doing on the Bridge, holding down the fort as it were

=== Bridge ===

At the helm console Bracca sat back quite relaxed, the ship was in a nice simple cruise in a relatively straight line, there was nothing in their flight path for the foreseeable future and he was confident enough to let the computer handle things for now.

In the command chair, Dovenice Baka sat and scrolled through the status reports that came through on a nearly constant rate with nothing worth noting other than there was a complaint about a turbolift that needed to be fixed. The report was marked "third request." She crossed referenced the request to find where the ticket was on her engineering schedule and found no service requests at all regarding the specified lift, nor any lifts at all.

Sorting through the reports again, she searched out for a first and second request, then sent a reply, "Engineering has been alerted. First requests should not be erroneously marked as 'third request.'" But, that was about as interesting as her shift on the bridge promised to be in the foreseeable future.

Summer stepped out onto the bridge, she’d been away to deal with counselling appointments, but with a gap in her schedule she was taking the chance to be on the bridge. Moving to her seat she offered Baka a smile which was then returned by the Trill.

A few minutes later and late Anthony came onto the bridge. He hadn’t slept well while the Wolff was in the null space corridor. In a way, it was good because it gave him and Cameron time to practice both together and separately, which means the concert had gone really well. As he came onto the bridge he made his way to the science station and said “Morning All.”

After the excitement of escaping the starless void, Min was looking forward to getting back to spacedock, and some R&R. She'd not been present on the bridge for the big escape but she'd heard about the excitement from the couple of other's in Ops that'd been there. Being trapped as long as they had, Min herself had been going a bit stir crazy, and was both excited and grateful to be enroute to the nearby starbase.

That excitement however changed quickly when her console chirped, a distress call coming in, but on several frequencies. "Lt Baka?" Min spoke up, "Broadband distress call coming in. Signal originates from a nearby system, Alpha Trionus." She began to pull up information, "Signal appears to be coming from the planet itself."

"Is there a message with the signal? And are there any other ships in the area?" Baka asked before alerting the Captain.

Anthony checked the pinwheel, centering it on Alpha Trionus and that told him quite quickly that they were the closest ship to the target. “No chance of any other ship beating us there Lieutenant. Even at maximum warp and us at warp factor 1 we will still beat them there by about a day.”

"There is a message Lieutenant. Bit garbled but I can clean it up."

"Let's hear it," Baka said.

"To any ship that can hear us, please help. They're slaughtering us we can't stop them...." The voice of the distress calls owner reverberated around the bridge.

With hearing the call, Dove sent a message, calling the CO to the bridge. Changing course was not something she was comfortable doing without authorization.

Min left the signal feed on for a bit, replaying the distress a second time. "Basically it Ma'am. They're being attacked by something, it cuts out, and repeats. No idea how long it's been playing, no way to tell from the recording."

Kyle Samson manned the Wolff’s tactical station, his forehead wrinkled like wavey crisps. He stroked the reddish-brown scruff that had evolved over the reason weeks to a kempt beard. If he kept it growing as it had been, he'd have a good bushy growth by the next Earth holiday. He remained at his station, the message circulating through his mind.

"If we are in fact the closest Federation starship even at a warp factor of one, I would recommend yellow alert conditions," Kyle asserted briskly. "Until we can authenticate that transmission and confirm their situation, we are essentially alone out here. It would not be the first time a Federation starship was lured into a trap by a false distress call."

"False distress call?" Taliserra said as she strode onto the bridge.

Kyle met the Captain's gaze. "Potentially false, but we have yet to ascertain that with any certainty" the lieutenant at the tactical station stated. "I yield to Lieutenant Baka, ma'am," added Samson who did not want to overstep his place on the bridge at the time which was not as officer of the watch.

Taliserra headed for the center chair and sat down. "What's the situation Lt?"

"We have a call for help coming in, from Alpha Trionus." Baka explained, having relieved herself of the center chair.

Summer looked towards Taliserra and Baka. “May I hear the transmission again?”

"Let's hear it." Taliserra added her own voice to Summers question.

Min pulled the recording again, playing it for the assembled officers.

"To any ship that can hear us, please help. They're slaughtering us we can't stop them...."

Summer listened to the message, taking in the tone of voice, and the emotion behind it. “I don’t think that’s a fake call.” She looked at Taliserra. “You can hear the panic in the voice, and the emotion I’m hearing tells me that we should investigate!”

"I agree, Bracca set a course, warp 5." Taliserra instructed.

Bracca suddenly started paying attention to the helm console. "Aye Captain, changing course.... engaging warp engines."

Taliserra looked over at the science station "Anthony get on the database, find out what we know about Alpha Trionus."

"On it Captain!" As soon as Anthony heard where the call had come from he knew it had been a while since Fleet had been there. After a few moments more moments he had found out it was a decade. He skipped the uninteresting parts in his bridge presentation. Alpha Trionus a Class M Planet with a Class D Moon orbiting a Yellow dwarf. The last survey was a decade ago Captain..."

"10 years ago," Taliserra remarked, most systems in federation space had a ship visit them on a somewhat regular basis.

Anthony worked some more to get the technological level of the system. "No Lunar colony on that survey, but they have an advanced technological level that has a heavy leaning to robotic and Automation." Another pause as he worked through more of what the computer was telling him before he said, "Ahhhhh Captain they are an independent!"

"Independent, they're not a federation world?" Taliserra asked, a totally independent world inside federation space was a very rare thing.

"Yes, Captain, a true independent surrounded by the United Federation of Planets, calling for help! They may be independent but both the VSC and the Daystrom institute have had representatives study with him. In fact Doctor Richard Daystrom himself study robotics and cybernetics with them." Anthony said.

"Daystrom himself went there, sounds like an important place to be keeping an eye on. Helm increase to warp 6." Taliserra instructed, her face and voice confident and certain but her mind was racing, independent worlds even ones that were already aware of the Federation could be trouble. "Keep digging Anthony."

"Yes Captain." Anthony said he was intrigued, a truly independent within federation space was certainly unusual in itself, but then to hear them calling for help was certainly unheard of in all the time the federation had known of these people and it just happened to happen as the Wolff was passing by.
