Mission:
The science of stars
Location: Sick bay
Timeline: March 24
On:
Anthony had waited for HG to come up from the planet, he leaned against the back wall of the transporter room. As he stood there he whistled to himself an ancient ditty about an A female fishmonger named Molly Malone. He had only been there a few minutes but it had already been twice as long as he thought it should take so he asked again. “How long has it been now Chief?”
"Only a couple of minutes Sir, I'm scanning the area every few seconds for her signal." The young man manning the console replied. "Nothing so far."
“Come on HG take much longer and your going to remain a permanent resident.” Anthony said more to himself, knowing It had likely still only been minutes since he and the rest of the team arrived from planet side.
"Wait... There she is, energising."
“Finally!” Anthony exclaimed with a sigh of relief.
HG had phased back after getting well out of sight and then called up. A few moments later she showed up on the transporter pad. She saw Anthony and waved. "Hey boss, all up, nothing left behind but maybe a few impressions in the dirt. Think we are good."
“Any trouble from the natives?” Anthony asked.
"None, did a scan, and considering what I put in the keeper's drink probably still nursing a headache and not worrying about much." She grinned like a Cheshire cat at that. "So what is up? Rather abrupt end to the mission."
“None, I haven’t left here yet, I was waiting for you, Chief said Captains orders were to report to Medical then we have a day off. I expect sometime between now and the end of that day Captain Tigran will either call me or in on me and let me know more.” Anthony said before he finished with “So I guess our next move is to go and get a our return to work clearance then.”
In sickbay Seleya had her hands full with the returning officers. She'd checked on Hunter who was in quarantine for the moment and then made her way out to the main bay to wait for the rest of those who'd returned.
HG followed Anthony into the place which seemed rather busy. It was obvious that they were not the only ones that had been recalled from mission. There was something going on and she figured she find out soon enough. For once, she behaved herself and waited quietly and patiently.
Anthony chuckled as it was the first time he had seen her either quite of still for more than a few minutes. “Penny for them HG?”
"Oh nothing sir," HG replied. "Sickbay and lot of people and a Vulcan doctor, chaos is already here and adding to it is something I do not need to do. Besides, now that we are more formally back on the ship I think it best for your own reputation as an officer that your personnel behave themselves."
“I appreciate that actually, even though as a civilian scientist you are less strongly tied to being my Personnel that say Ensign Franklin, due to your independence rather than being tied to starfleet.”
Seleya walked up. "Miss HG and Doctor Edwards. If you'll follow me please." The nurses and doctors were bustling to keep up.
Anthony got up and followed Doctor Seleya, “How was it up here?”
HG just followed along as well. She was interested as well to find out why the quick end. It seemed to her from the amount of people that they were not the only team called back. "A lot of people for one away team," she observed. "Looks like we are not the only one called up." She said that as just an observation to see if something might come up.
"No. All teams have been recalled." She lead them to one of the rooms with two bio beds. "If you will remove your jackets and lay back I shall start the scanning. "Medicals are being completed and if you have no parasites or worries you shall be released."
"Yes doctor," HG replied doing as asked but with a little wink a the Vulcan doctor.
Anthony did the same and lay down waiting for the scan to process and developed a theory, likely the same theory that would be developing in HG’s mind to if she was even think about it. “So everyone that went on away mission is coming through medical for the normal barrage of tests.”
HG tapped her fingers on the edge of the bed acting like she was bored but listened carefully to others to see what she could pick up and what the doctor might say in answer to Anthony's question.
"Yes. So far only one issue has been picked up." She continued to scan the two. She looked over at HG. "Please take a breath in and hold it for twenty seconds." She then turned "When she released her breath you will need to do the same."
“I expect that the worst if anything came from a planet would have been goldilocks. It is the only living planet with a live population to catch something from.” Anthony said.
Seleya was oddly silent. She finished her scan of HG. "You are fine." She said to her. She turned to Anthony. "One more test for you both." She pulled out a hypo. "Blood samples please." She approached HG first and took a sample and then Anthony. "If you will wait here I shall return shortly."
HG waited patiently until the doctor went off and sat up and looked at Edward. "Just what the jackanory was that?"
“I have no idea, I’m not the brightest tool in the shed sometimes. I am a languages expert. However I conclude that we haven’t been told everything simply by the point of her ears. I would guess she has asked me to stay for a private conversation.” Anthony said “If it had anything to do with your health she would have asked you to stay.”
"I guess," HG shrugged, and then looked after the doctor. "So I guess I am done then?" She hopped off the bed.
Anthony smiled and asked “dinner at my place tonight then?”
Seleya returned. "HG, you may leave. Doctor Edwards...follow me to my office please."
"Yes doctor," she said pleasantly but as soon as the Vulcan doctor turned she shot a glance at Anthony and shrugged. There was nothing more to it than that and she left.
Anthony got up and ready to follow the doctor. As he did he felt something click in his ankle, expected it was nothing major and as he started walking there was no pain.
They walked in silence to her office. The words in her head weighed heavy on her. They arrived and she closed the door motioning for him to sit.
Anthony watched as the doctor closed the door and waited for her to take her seat, then asked. “Okay doctor spill what do you want me to know but not HG?”
"It is not so much what I wish her not to know. You are friends with Chief Payton, are you not?" She shifted in her seat.
“I’d like to think so, why what has the Chief done this time to piss off mummy?” Anthony asked.
"Chief Payton has mere days to live. He was bitten by a creature and there is no cure. I simply thought you may wish to say goodbye."
"Lead me to him Doctor, at least this time I have a choice to say good bye. Any special precautions you want me to take to be with him?" Anthony asked.
She shook her head. "No. He is not contagious." She stood and lead the way to the room. "He's in there. I will ensure you have privacy."
