Convergence part 3

Posted on Wed Jan 26th, 2022 @ 11:41am by Captain Taliserra Tigran & Ensign Amanda Turell & Lieutenant Commander Tyrus Acevedo & Lieutenant Helena Wells & Lieutenant JG Summer Wyse & Ensign Zachary Chandler

Mission: The Silent Scream
Location: Jem'Hadar attack ship
Timeline: Continuing from part 2

OLD:

Rifle raised just in case Amanda led Summer through the doorway off of the ships bridge.

“Any idea what we might find?” Summer looked at Amanda curiously.

"A shapeshifter hiding as a chair?" Amanda said laughing slightly before switching back to being serious. "We should probably head to engineering, see if anything is down there."

Summer nodded. “Agreed, hopefully there’s no shapeshifting chairs, or anything else for that matter!”

Ty winced at the thought of a shapeshifter. How long can they live? he pondered. He knew the answer was not to his liking, but could one be aboard a small Jem'Hadar vessel? He brushed it off as very unlikely. "I'll take anything that can be helpful," the First Officer said to the two women. "If you think there's something that's useful and it isn't bolted to the decking, take it."

NEW:

=== Engineering ===

With Jem'Hadar attack ships being quite small it didn't take long for Amanda and Summer to reach the engineering section of the ship and after blasting through the doorway they stepped inside.

"Clear." Amanda called out after sweeping the room with her targeter. The room was as dark as the bridge was, only emergency lights flickered dimly, the typical low thrum of a engine core was absent.

Summer stepped inside looking around the dimly lit sea. “This place gives me the creeps!” She looked towards Amanda. “No sign of any bodies...yet!”

"Nothing." Amanda said as she began a sweep around the area. "Judging by the scene on their bridge I doubt anything is alive on this ship. "Including their warp core by the looks of it."

“Let’s see” Summer made her way across to the core, tapping on the controls she checked it over. “The core is intact, it’s simply offline.” She tapped her comm badge. =^= Wyse to bridge, all quiet here so far Sir. The core appears intact it’s just offline. =^=

=^= "Noted, Counsellor. The ensign is going to be working on restoring a bit more power. You two continue to see if you can bring it online." =^= It was a long shot, but they could possibly get the Jem'Hadar vessel out along with the Wolff...if not, then Ty was at least going to grab some souvenirs.

Summer responded. =^= Understood Sir, we’ll see what we can do. =^=

Amanda was finishing her sweep of the area and was about to join Summer beside the core when she heard a clunk by the entrance they'd made, she raised her rifle and took up the first pressure on her trigger. Moments before the source of the clunk reached the doorway her targeter flashed up that it was a human biosign, she lowered her rifle as Zach entered the engineering bay. "Be more careful next time Chandler, I could have shot you."

Zack raised a brow. A quip about being trigger happy on the tip of this tongue. Luckily he had a fully functioning verbal filter; well most of the time anyway.
"Yes ma'am."

==== Bridge ===

HG had plucked the command spectacle off one of the corpses and was working with it to try to access the ship's functions. This was an interesting aspect to these ships. Everything was just so pared down to the necessities. Finally it flickered and came up to life.

"Ah! There we go!" She probably looked odd as she slipped the thing on. "Let me see what we have here." The interface was slow as it had to adapt to her particular brain function but Vorta did not have too much physiological structural differences than humans in that department. "Everything is pretty much offline, if I interpret these readings correctly but indications are still pretty much intact. I think with just a bit of goose we could power it back up."

Ty nodded. "Give it the Christmas goose then," the First Officer quipped as he observed from a few feet away from HG, Ty had crossed his arms as he watched the woman work. "Those look good on you," he added commenting about the eyewear.

Having sent the young engineer to engineering, Ty was a bit worried. The 'buddy system' he had put into place had not worked out so well when it came time to having to split up. He felt Zack was able to handle himself better than Summer, thus pairing her and Amanda off, and Ty staying with HG.

Still, Lieutenant Commander Acevedo grew concerned that he had made an error by sending Zack off alone albeit the vessel was not that large, and he was pretty confident if anyone screamed loud enough, Ty could get to them quickly.

HG used the spectacle some more. She felt the twinges of a headache. Vorta were close but not identical, but this was important and unless she just could not stand it anymore she would hang on as long as possible.

"Think the Ensign will be fine. I am using the ship's sensors and nothing is showing up at the moment sir," she waved a hand at the commander

Ty nodded. "He should report back to us soon. Maybe we can make some headway."

==== ENGINEERING ====

Zack adjusted his engineering kit so that it was in front of him; then stood in front of the main control console. "Well, let's see what we can do with you." He tapped his combadge.

=^= "How are things looking on the bridge?" =^=

The First Officer's voice came through crisply =^= "I was starting to get worried about you" the man said teasingly. "HG and I are still on the Bridge trying to get things working, at least partially. How are you doing in the engineering section, ensign?"

A bit of a racket could be heard as Zack manhandled himself to the ground, and then struggled to open the access hatch. =^= Well, their ODN was designed by a toddler with severe ADHD." =^= He reported with a sigh. He hated sub standard work, and clearly this had been designed with function in mind, but not efficiency.

"Toddler with ADHD," Ty repeated. "I wasn't aware Lieutenant Mizuhara served on a Jem'Hadar design team" muttered the First Officer. "Do what you must to get us more juice. Most these stations up here aren't functional."

Zack poorly attempted to hide a snicker at the XOs muttering. =^= "Aye sir. I'll see what I can do."

This really wasn't Zack's specialty. He was a design guru, not a repair tech. But that was one of the main reason's he'd opted for a ship posting fresh out of the academy. He wouldn't be a well balanced engineer if he didn't put his practical knowledge into real world use. "Ok, you convoluted piece of crap, work with me here." He complained at the messy ODN. It took him longer than he'd like, but he eventually rerouted enough to provide the bridge, well something, he hoped.

=^= Alright bridge. You should have backup power now. =^=

"Thanks, Zach," replied Lieutenant Commander Tyrus Acevedo. "See what else you can do down there. Grab me some ship schematics or tactical information, download it. Then come back to the bridge."

=^= Aye sir =^= Zack grabbed another PaDD and got to work.

=== Bridge ===

Tyrus looked at H.G. and nodded "Let there be light!" teased Ty as he took position near an auxiliary console. '"That should help you out a bit, HG."

"Just only a bit. This device," she tapped the frame. "Pretty much ties in. Anyway, before I have too much problem should we try to move this thing. Core is off but it seems that impulse and thrusters appear to be working."

Ty nodded. "Oh I think so," he replied. "If we can, then we should definitely try. Could you imagine if we were ae to get this ship and the Wolff out?"

"Not sure about getting both out sir. We might have to sacrifice one for the other and I think I know which one the captain would choose. Problem for a bit later, let me see if we can move this hulk. Here we go."

The ship shuddered as the thrusters orientated the ship and the impulse reactor came online fully. "Well we have not blown up." HG turned to look up at the commander. "Yet."

Ty chuckled at HG's commentary. "My preference of death does not involve being spread through the cosmos as ash or dust. So, let's do what we can to avoid being blown up here today." It had not gone unnoticed that the woman did not seem optimistic on getting both ships freed.

"You don't think we can get both ships out of here, HG?" asked Ty as he sought clarification. Admittedly, he was a bit disappointed to hear that. The possibility of being responsible for salvaging a Jem'Hadar vessel had been an attractive thought.

She spared a look at the commander. The weird sensation of the command spectacle made it a little difficult to keep attention on the ship or elsewhere.
"I will not say yes, I will not say no until we have a better chance at analysis. However, my guess, and mind you only that at this point, is imploding the warp core of one of the ships should disrupt null space just enough that will allow a breach back into normal space. Anyway, here we go." She continued to monitor the ship's progress and the various states of the systems. "Minimal but they built this boat to take a lot of abuse and keep functioning. Everything so far is green. Here," she waved a hand in the air. "I am going to give you a hail screen so the Wolff does not think they have a ship full of Jem'Hadar headed their way." As she made that wave a holographic screen appeared. "Channel is open."

"Don't suppose blowing the Wolff up is an option that -" before Ty could finish, he realized that HG wasn't joking. She had got the holographic communication system working, and Captain Tigran was probably able to see a holographic projection of him on her Bridge.

"Captain," he said addressing her. "You'll be happy to know we are alive and well over here. The Jem'Hadar look pretty dead...long dead actually. We were able to salvage the logs and restore some power. HG has an idea of how to potentially break us free."

"It's good to........ you're safe Comman..." Taliserra's response was marred with interference.

HG was glad they had a marker to move to. The poor Jem Ha'dar probably chased their tails around and around in this weird space until they literally died. "Let me see if I can clear that up just a tad sir."

"Make it so, HG," Ty replied and waited for the science officer to do whatever it is that she had cone up with. "Away team to Wolff, Captain, we should have a better signal now. Are you able to hear us?"

This time Taliserra's voice came through much clearer. "Affirmative, there is still a small amount of intereference. You mentioned a possible way to break us free?"

"Yes, it involves blowing either this Jem'Hadar ship up or the Wolff. Given your fondness for the Wolff, I think I can guess which you are picking. It's HG's idea so I'll turn it over to her."

HG was definitely getting a headache but they were moving ever closer to the Wolff and the old ship was holding good. She had the spectacle shift focus to her.
"Just a speculation, back of the chuff thought captain. However, imploding the warp core should disrupt even the structure of null space sufficiently that it will cause a breach back into normal space. Now before we go all, 'well that's fine', it means we need to use whatever ship we are escaping on, to ride the crest. As soon as the core is set off, the remaining ship must be moving to catch the wave and it will be close. Think of it a bit like a surfer on Earth trying to catch a big wave. Too slow, it will go right past you with the consequence you are going to get damage. Too fast and said wave could put you between the null space wall and splat. Even if all goes aright, if we successfully breech the forces involved will send the ship through a warped space. Have no idea how far it will take us. Catapults that were discovered using null space hurtled ships over quadrants worth of distance. Right now though captain, I cannot fathom another quick solution and we could be poking around for finding a natural transition for the rest of our lives as well."

"What are the chances of this working Lieutenant?" Taliserra said after a moments silence, it was certainly risky.

"You want a full analysis or just my off the chuff thoughts?" HG replied. "Quick thought is about sixty eight percent chance we miss timing. However, estimate is ninety nine percent chance we just run out of energy before we ever figure a natural transition. Like this crew and ship, just wandering without a real sense of direction inside a space that shifts such that what you thought was where has now shifted. I mean I can fine tune it, but do not think the percentage is going to change by a bit more than a few either way."

Ty decided to get into the conversation. "That is what we are looking, Captain. We have this ship fairly secure, Jem'Hadar and its Vorta are long dead. We have the ship itself up and running, and I have collected some of the ship's logs. I would suggest we further this conversation back on the Wolff."

"I agree," Taliserra said, it'd certainly be easier for HG to explain the science of her plan in person rather than over a shaky comm system. "recommend you, Lt Wells and Lt Wyse return. Do you need any additional crew to keep the ship secure?"

"Secure, no," Ty replied. "Though I would recommend sending some engineers, scientists, or operations personnel to study the ship while we have the opportunity. I also don't feel comfortable with leaving two ensigns alone on an alien ship."

"Copy that, I'll send an engineering team over in another shuttle." Taliserra said, pausing for a few moment as she gave the instructions to crew on the Wolff. "Get yourselves back here safely Commander."

Ty nodded. It was just muscle memory. "Understood, Acevedo out." He severed the comm channel and opened one to the members of his away team. "Summer, meet back at the shuttle. We're heading back to the Wolff. Ensigns Chandler and Turrell hold tight, you'll be on your own for a bit. Another shuttle is on its way."

Summer tapped her comm badge. “Understood Commander, on my way!”

Ty looked at HG. "Shall we?"

HG took the spectacle off and put it where it could be found easily. "Yes sir, just hope whoever gets this next has asprin or such. It does hurt after a point."
